Organized Chaos

23 Feb

I live in a state of organized chaos.

Whether it comes to my kitchen with my limited counter and cabinet space

The contents of my fridge

And yes, when I am feeling uninspired and too lazy to look through hundreds of recipes that I have at my fingertips, I simply pull up a stool to the fridge and stare until I come up with meals to make.

How I organize my cookbooks

Hell, even my magnets on my fridge are organized chaos

And especially at work, this is my desktop on a day where I have 95% of my work done and I’m feeling good about it

My thoughts are  in a state of organized chaos. ALL. THE. TIME.

But I’m cool with that since that is how I am used to things being and living. Some may not understand that but that’s how I am and operate. I have so much going through my brain on the daily, it’s difficult to keep things straight but somehow I manage. I thank my Blackberry memo pad that lets me jot down random thoughts and things I need to get done and of course, Post It notes. I can’t live without Post It notes.

Even living with Lincoln is a state of organized chaos since he is the dog who like to rest with a pillow on top of him, not under him

My workouts are in a state of organized chaos. I go to the gym with no idea what I’m going to do but knowing I want a killer workout. I do this because the gym I go to gets busy which means that finding a machine can be difficult. I try to find any kind of machine I can whether it be elliptical, treadmill or bike and go to town on it. Afterwards, I usually do some kind of strength training but again, unplanned. since that is how I roll.

Meals are sometimes in a state of organized chaos and unplanned….like on Monday.

I had off on Monday but since I have been so overloaded with work, I went in for a few hours to knock some stuff out without distraction. I was there for two hours and really didn’t get that much done nor did it give me the peace of mind I was hoping for.

I made a tuna, green onion and avocado salad with tomato on top of a sandwich thin with a side of Kashi Mediterranean Bruschetta crackers

This was such a fantastic and flavorful combination! I didn’t use any mayo and it was still rich and creamy.

Dinner was a bit unorganized as well and the brainchild of sitting in front of the fridge for a few minutes.

I chopped up some tofu then pressed for few hours

Mixed with taco seasoning

Then fried those little suckers up

I added some black beans and corn that was looking for a home

Then I remembered I had cooked mushrooms that were also in need of a home

While that was cooking, I chopped up a few springs of green onion and two jalapenos (with gloves of course!)

Then added everything together….plus some tomato, cheese, avocado and salsa

I already have enough organized chaos in my life, why not add some more to the mix with food?

This was such a terrific meal but I got too ambitious with my toppings and they were difficult to eat. I love that since most of the ingredients were fresh I didn’t have to add alot of seasonings to the mix except for the taco seasoning.

And it left wonderful leftovers such as a naked burrito bowl.

Dinner on Tuesday night was a completely random one….. brown purple pink green monster!

Instead of using baby spinach like I always do, I used kale instead after reading about a kale smoothie on Thorns Have Roses. I love me some kale but never thought to use it in a smoothie before so I was a tad apprehensive. I mixed with almond milk, strawberries, flax-seed and Spiru-tein Blueberries and Cream protein powder

I would never really crave a green monster for dinner but I had my permanent crown put on Tuesday afternoon and was supposed to stick to soft foods for 24 hours.

I call myself an organized mess as well. Or “beautiful disaster”. I think I got that from a song that plays in my office… ha ha

Lincoln is quirky. And I sort of love that.

I have a day planner that I would be lost without. I try to keep my life contained in separate compartments, and I devote one day a week to sifting through all the things I’ve throw in the “to figure out later” pile.
I also love leaving myself notes via e-mail and “stickies” to remember ideas, sites I want to look at later, and things I need to do.

That looks so good! I never envision tofu looking like that when I see that slimy lump at the store!

Organized chaos is the way to go. Also, I need to get some of that taco seasoning because it looks oh so good on tofu.

My chaos is mostly organized as well. I’ve slowly been decluttering my life since I moved to a much smaller home 5 years ago and trying suggestions in the book, “It’s All Too Much” – good tips in there. I always have things in order when I have company, though.

    Those tomatoes look SO FRESH!!

My life is perfectly described as organized chaos. That’s just kind of how I roll!

    Lincoln is so cute!

my life is organized chaos too, but I always know where everything is!! I hate when people try to pick up for me… it’s like I knew that pen was under the shoe, come on now!

That thrown together meal looks fabulous though!

I can totally relate to your post. I am the same way at home and actually the total opposite at work. At home, I like things clean surface wise, but they aren’t always that organized (it would help to have a bigger kitchen). At work, I am very organized and know where everything is at all times.

To keep my thoughts organized, I have a balance between using my work Outlook calendar for reminders; my personal life is organized with my iCal on my iPod and I have alerts that pop up; plus I e-mail myself reminders from work to home and vice versa so I don’t forget something. My brain is always racing with thoughts, so that works best for me.

Ahhhh!!! That photo of Lincoln is so stinkin’ cute. His ears are absofrickin adorable!

Our lives are total chaos right now. Organized? Not so much. 😉

I couldn’t live without post-its. I write myself notes on them all the time and stick them on my computer and desk at work. And since I hate to have a messy desk, I work hard to get the things on my post-its done fast so I can get rid of them. 🙂

So I’m a freak. Sunday night I look at my fridge and kinda see what I have to eat for the week and I also look at my gym’s schedule to see what classes I can take based on my work schedule. Gotta plan ahead YO. But I’m a fan of check lists…it’s therapeutic to check things off!! ANyways, off to get some tofu ASAP.

Sounds like you deal well with chaos! I’m a planner I’m afraid – I like to know where I’m going and when and what I’m eating prob ebcause I’m indecisive so it takes me a while to choose things :-)your dog is so cute!!

  14. leashieloo February 24, 2011 at 8:44 am #

Nothing wrong with organized chaos! At least you know where to find anything 🙂

  15. Kace February 24, 2011 at 9:06 am #

I have to physically write something down for it to ever happen-whether its a post it or a note in my planner or what. Hand-written lists are my only way.

And hey, who cares about the clutter. As long as YOU know where everything is, that’s all that matters!

    that bowl looks DELICIOUS!

and since I’m a newbie when it comes to tofu, what does pressing it do? Does it make it more firm?

  17. thehealthyapron February 24, 2011 at 9:30 am #

Jotting things down on paper keeps me organized best! I find that I do not do well with chaos because it is never organized. If something is messy then I would have no clue where to find anything I’m looking for haha. Everyone is different though.

I was craving a smoothie for dinner last night! I used spinach but I have also been intrigued by using Kale lately. I just thought since it is more bitter it would taste bad.

I’m not as good at organizing my life as I should be…I’m fairly organized with food and working out, but not so much anything else. I see random things all the time and think to myself “I should write that down” but I don’t and then I forget about until it’s too late, like remembering to buy tickets to a concert after it’s already sold out, that kind of thing. I bought a planner to remedy this problem…that little experiment lasted a week. Oops.

  20. Stephanie February 24, 2011 at 2:50 pm #

I definitely live in a state of organized chaos. It looks messy but I can find anything I need. 🙂

Love post-its, scrap paper, spreadsheets and emails.

I totally believe in organized chaos! I once yelled at Binks for putting something back in its right place because I knew it was in the wrong place and was looking for it there…

I cannot live w/o my calendar and list book!

  22. This Italian Family February 24, 2011 at 4:58 pm #

Wow, you really make me think I’d like tofu looking at those tacos… they look so yum!

I’m so old school – I still have a paper and pen planner. 🙂

  23. Angela (the diet book junkie) February 24, 2011 at 5:45 pm #

haha…your book collection looks like mine. 🙂

i do try to keep organized for the most part though. my brain doesn’t function well if the apartment is a mess. (we live in a very small place, it would drive anyone nuts.) p.s. your dinner looks awesome!

  24. eatspinlive February 24, 2011 at 10:24 pm #

I love post-it notes too! I use them all the time! Your meal looks delicious! And I had a green smoothie tonight! It was SOOO good! 🙂
