Feels like the first time

19 May

We have a Whole Foods near my house however  I rarely go since when I’m back home I am usually without car. So when I’m without car, my parents drive me around like I’m 14 years old again which is lots of fun seeing that I’m over 30. To add to the fun of that, my dad got into a heated argument at WF last year around Thanksgiving or Christmas time and according to him “is banned” from that WF location so he is never down for going (parents getting me drunk, think I’m dating Samoans and this—do you see where I get my eccentricities from??) But this visit I am with car so I drove around to pick up some goodies. I was greeted by the wonderfulness that is Whole Foods. However after three or four minutes of being there, I went into overload. Did I want a salad bar, hot bar, sub, sushi, noodles? Can we say too many decisions and all look wonderful? As I was perusing the hot bar, I saw a dude walk by with a slice of pizza and problem solved!  However, I wanted a salad and knew a piece of pizza wouldn’t fill me up so I got the smallest size salad. I had nowhere to be so I dined outside with the salad and Honest Tea.

I feel like a legit blogger with my WF salad! I always see pictures on everyone else’s blog who lives in a normal city that has WF not in some podunk city like Charlotte. And I get a bit envious. Yeah, I can get salads somewhere else but there is just something special about a WF salad. Maybe it’s just me but this was just as good as the first time I tried their salad bar. I got some type of cole slaw on there so I didn’t need too much dressing but all in all in was delish.

I picked up some coconut water and Pop Chips as well then had my slice of Florentino pizza

All of that for $21, not too bad at all.

I had a little help from my guys while finishing the pizza so it went quickly

I don’t know why I’m tying in feeding pizza to the dogs with Jon Hamm but a few of you commented on how you will see Bridesmaids after I said he was naked. He was kinda naked, like shirtless but no full frontals–boo! However, he is furry on top so that was good enough for me! Didn’t want to mislead any of you.

After dinner, I stopped by Cupcake Couture for a sweet treat. I  went to Couture over Christmas and tried their Boston Couture but wanted to try something different this time around (ok and I was feeling lazy and not in the mood to crack open a cupcake)

They were recently voted Best Dessert so that was a reassuring sign to see sitting in their window. I love their cupcakes because they are a) massive and b) all named after designers. Some examples:

Oscar de la Raspberry

Jean Paul Peanutier

I’m not even a fashionista but I want to buy one just after hearing the names!

I ordered a latte and the Dolce & Banana cupcake—banana bread cupcake with banana buttercream frosting.

I was a good girl and saved it until I got home. Still pleasantly full from dinner, I had 1/3 of it just to see how it was and left the rest for the next morning because there is nothing like buttercream in the morning. The buttercream was the winner of the cupcake but I wasn’t too crazy about the banana bread portion, it was dry and lacked flavor.

Oh well, you can’t win them all.

I have to show some  blogger love here after reading the  Lazy Girls Guide to Men by the wonderful MelissaNibbles. She is dead on with all of the examples she uses and could not stop nodding my head while reading! If you haven’t checked out Melissa’s blog, I encourage you to do so. She is one of the bloggers that comes to mind when I think of people who truly speak their mind and doesn’t make everything seem like sunshine and butterfly farts.  Kudos Melissa!!!

Whole Foods-Heaven sent or evil empire? What are your must haves when you go?

Do you like coconut water? If so, what brands do you like?

There isn’t a WF within 300 miles of where I live, but I’ve been to the one in NY once a couple of years ago. It was kind of overwhelming and extremely overpriced, but I had a piece of veggie lasagna that tasted like heaven after working all day and living off travel food. If there was one near me, I would probably be broke (well, broke-er.)

As for coconut, the taste reminds me off the smell of suntan lotion. Meh…

ha ha… I swear a trip to the WF food bar is like blogger hazing.

Sorry about the cupcake fail. Such a tragic affair when that happens!!! 😦

I love Whole Foods hot bar. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t live near a Whole Foods.

P.S. I would like to take a bath in buttercream. True story.

Ohhhh, how I love Whole Foods. I haven’t lived in a city with one since college though…and that’s probably a good thing. I can drop some SERIOUS dough there.

Glad you’re enjoying your time at home!!

VitaCoco Pineapple Coconut Water is the best! BEST!

I like going to Whole Foods at off times so it’s not so crowded (cut to a scene from Thanksgiving Eve when I had a mental breakdown after the crowds and holiday stress!) The Whole Foods Food bars helped me so much when I was transitioning to being vegan. They also have great vegan pizza. Daiya cheese is amazing!

    I want buttercream!!!! 🙂
Love Whole Foods – if it makes you feel any better, I live in a city with 2 (soon to be 4 Whole Foods) but work in the country so I don’t get their salads very often either. 😦

I would watch anything with Jon Hamm in it. Doesn’t have to be naked – I can imagine that part all to myself. LOL!!!

I heart Melissa and you for your honesty! And wf foods suck…except their salads and tofu!!! You are getting one soon in charlotte right?

I’m seeing Bridesmaids with my grandmother this weekend, so I’m glad there isn’t full frontal. That would be awkward.

Your WF salad looks awesome- I’m jealous! I think it’s a good thing there isn’t one where I live- whenever I get to one my meal is like 15 bucks.

I loveee coconut water- haven’t had it in a bit but my fave is Zico lime flavored. Good stuff!

They just opened a new Whole Foods near me. They closed the one you went to with me and are putting in a Fresh Market. I love Whole Foods though!! I also like learning about where your eccentricities come from. The Samoan thing is too funny!!!!

“feels like the very first time” song in my head now!

I love Whole Foods. The closest one to me is 15 miles away so it’s rare for us to go. When we do, I savor it!

I just went to Whole Foods today. I had to stock up on a particular staple in my diet, which is the huge 64 fluid ounce bottles of unsweetned Honest green tea. I usually go every two weeks and buy around 4 jugs. I like the hot bar, but rarely indulge in it. I haven’t tried the salad bar yet. I also go there for my pastry fix. I always walk out with the almond croissant or the banana chocolate chip muffin(if they have it). Other than a couple other little things, I usually stick to Super Target or Costco. These two places are stepping up and providing some items that Whole Foods sell at a much cheaper price.

buttercream for breakfast is golden! 🙂 and ya knooo i really wanted to like coconut water, but it just didn’t do it for me!! SO EXCITED I WON MY FIRST EVER GIVEAWAY 🙂

  19. miriam May 19, 2011 at 9:14 pm #

Yep, you totally inspired my salad today. I think yours was waaay more interesting 🙂

  20. Alex May 19, 2011 at 10:58 pm #

Whole Foods…the antithesis to my minimalism. I can never decide on what to get from there, and I always end up leaving with more than I planned on. The salad looks bomb by the way. Also…are Samoans your thing? Personally, I prefer Samoas.

Haha love the cupcake names! What a great idea for a theme, perfect for the fashion and cupcake addicted ladies – who isn’t one?!? 🙂

Banned from WF? How did that happen?!

So I live like a 2 minute walk from a Whole Foods but it’s like the worst WF ever…it’s tiny, everyone is pushy, not hot or juice bar..so sad!
