Props to the hippies

20 Apr

Today was an interesting day. It was sunny in the first part then slowly became cloudy….outside and inside.

I started the day off right though because I had a free drink coupon for Starbucks. I decided to go big or go home and got a Venti Iced Raspberry Soy Latte. Look at that color! It’s one of the prettiest color of coffees I’ve ever seen!

My Starbucks baristas looked at me like I was crazy though since I always get drip coffee or iced coffee. I told them the only reason I got this was because it’s free because I refuse to spend $4 ot $5 on a coffee drink. Seriously, how do people afford that every day? On the other hand, under two bucks and free refills I can totally roll with.

My email box wasn’t completely flooded when I turned on my computer so I felt somewhat at ease. Also, Stinkalicious called in sick today which automatically put me in a good mood 🙂

I had a nutty breakfast of Trader Joe’s 0% Greek Yogurt, Very Cherry Frozen Fruit and their Blueberry Flax Seed topped with coconut granola.

Won’t stay too pretty for long!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I would marry Trader Joe’s if I could.

It’s Tuesday so that means the hippies were out and got some mad deals on produce for the wk…..

Yes—sweet potatoes, tomatoes, apple, pear, onion, zucchini, squash and okra for only $7, not too shabby at all. I love that they are here twice a week and that I’m buying locally grown stuff. When it gets nicer out, the square they are in has other vendors out and music, it’s quite fun. But then again, it makes me not want to work…..but when does one ever feel like working? I also love that the head hippie lady has the nicest arms. I am talking Jackie Warner league. I want to make a shirt for her that says “Hippies Have Guns” with her posing, I think it would be cute 🙂

Quiznos had people out on the corner handing out free stuff so naturally I wondered over there to see what the fuss was about and scored a free lunch bag (with coupons inside, thanks Quiznos!)

The rest of the morning flew by while I helped with other people’s stuff, my own and various projects. I had an orange for my pre-lunch snack.

And lunch was served! I had a burrito bowl with black beans, diced jalapenos and onions, tomatoes and shredded cheese over brown rice with salsa/greek yogurt sauce.

I’m not even a huge rice person but think I could eat this every day and be happy.

This afternoon was a blur. I was on a couple hour long calls, taking care of my own stuff but then helping other people on my team (I love no matter how busy I am I offer to help if people are drowning in work but when I ask no one helps me? Detect snark? I hope so.) It started to darken outside and made me want to just curl under my cubicle and take a nice, long nap.

I walked over to Harris Teeter to get out for a few and pick up some bananas and Kashi Go Lean bars since this was the last day of their $1/bar sale.

I caught up on some reading on the bus ride home so I wouldn’t fall asleep. I’m currently reading Spin by Robert Rave. Think Devil Wears Prada meets the celebrity gossip world. It’s great 🙂

I had a bunch of pork in the freezer and decided to try this recipe I saw on myrecipes.com…..Pork Chops with Maple Mustard Glaze. Come to think of it, apples would have been really good with this as well.

Browning the pork, I kept saying “Browning the pork, browning the pork” ala Beavis and Buttheads “Breaking the Law”

I cut up some fresh okra that I bought from the hippies and sprinkled with extra virgin olive oil, pepper and garlic salt and baked at 375 for 17 mins. I’ve only had fried okra before and was anxious to try it! I had one more serving of cheesy/onion mashed taters on hand so nuked those while everything was finishing up.

Lovely plate of goodness

This was a random but great dinner! I really liked the pork recipe-it was sweet with a bit of tang to it. And okra, omg. This will be a new go to for me, it’s so easy to make and nutritious, you can’t go wrong!

Lincoln and I spent some quality time together afterwards. By quality time, I mean me rubbing his belly

My night-time snack was a pear from the hippies

I think I am going to turn off the tv for the rest of the night and zone out to Pandora. And probably some reggae due to my hippie-licious day. Thanks hippies for all the goodies today that I incorporated into my meals and snacks. I can’t wait to use the rest of my produce throughout the week until you are back on Friday.

Here for the wknd

1 Apr

I’m not going to Indiana. I’m still not feeling well and decided an 18 hour drive by myself while sick would not be a good thing. Plus I am going to DC next Thursday for the wknd and have been planning that for months and didn’t want to miss out on that as well. Sad thing is, this is not an April Fools joke.

I woke up late today and didn’t even time to make coffee—-eeeeeeek! I stopped at the Bucks before catching the bus, thank god for Starbucks at the shopping center where my bus stop is.

I got into work and changed my calendar. I love changing my wall calendar at work because I get a new picture on there. Am I the only person who gets excited by this??

Lovely!

I had the creamiest, dreamiest bowl of oats and greek yogurt for breakfast. Included oats, dallop of Trader Joe’s Greek Yogurt, unsweetened coconut, flax and a banana.

BEST

COMBO

EVER!

There was a guy talking to the lady who sits in my cube behind me at work and was sooooo loud. I thought his voice sounded familiar then I finally figured it out. He sounded like Bruce from Family Guy!!!

When I put two and two together I kept doing impersonations…..umm to myself like “Oh noooooo!” and “Hey how y’all doing?” Love Family Guy.

I got my ass handed to me at work due to it being the first day after quarter end. Luckily, I am still taking tomorrow off to rest up and the stock market is closed so no work will be coming my way.

For lunch, I had another big salad with baby spinach, broccoli slaw, cucumbers, shredded cheese and black beans with T Marzetti’s Honey Balsamic dressing (my new fave!)

I eat lunch at my desk 99% of the time(which sucks) but something new I’ve been trying is changing my Pandora station when eating. I typically listen to a house station or rock during the day but while eating lunch, I slow it down a bit. Today I listened to my Sublime station and I noticed myself eating slower.

With the salad I also had Progresso No MSG Added Roasted Garlic Chicken

I was really happy with this soup. I’m not a fan of the brothy soups but am trying to eat them more since they tend to be better than the creamy soups. And I didn’t even have to add salt or pepper which I normally do so thumbs up!

I saw this ad on the bus ride home….. Smoked Butt…hehe. I am so easily amused.

I wanted something easy for dinner so I went with my old standby of nachos. Too bad I don’t have any jalapenos, onions or greek yogurt at home so they were quite boring nachos. Only Baked Scoops, Morningstar veggie crumbles and cheese…. but nachos nonetheless!

And I had a new jar of salsa to break into—Trader Joe’s Organic Tomatillo and Roasted Yellow Chili Salsa

I liked this. I grabbed it yesterday without really looking at it because I was in a hurry and feeling crappy. I typically don’t dig the smoky salsa’s but this was different, it was smoky with spice but not over the top smokiness.

I took an hour and a half nap and then had a Skinny Cow Chocolate Truffle .

I had so much to do before my trip next wknd and hope I feel better this wknd to get some of it done. I need a new bowl for work, I am getting sick of looking at the blue one. I need to get an oil change. I need to sit down this wknd and make my April goals in order!!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

i love cheese

31 Mar

Payday is on Friday and we can view our paychecks online two days ahead of time to see how much our check will be, see any errors if any, etc.

I looked at my paycheck and was looking over the fields I get paid for such as regular, holiday, sick, etc. and saw this

Well, smack me on the butt and call me The Situation!

What is GTL? And why am I getting paid for it? I don’t go to the gym anymore, don’t tan and do laundry on Sundays so that can’t be it but now I am curious…..

Today was quarter end which is normally madness but it was pretty quiet but the floodgates will open up tomorrow.

My breakfast was oatmeal with sliced peaches, half a baked yellow apple, unsweeted coconut and a dallop of Trader Joe’s Greek Yogurt

I will never tire of the hot/cold combo of oats and greek yogurt. And I don’t know if I can ever eat regular yogurt again after being exposed to the thickness of the greek….man!!! LOL JK Greek Yogurt, just seeing if you’re reading.

This morning was uneventful. I went to the Bucks and got a Venti Pike with soymilk and two pumps sugar free cinnamon dolce.

Now that I think about it, that’s the most interesting thing that happened.

The nice thing about quarter end is that our department caters lunch. We had Boston Market this time which was awesome since I haven’t had it in forev!!

My beautiful plate with chicken, slice of turkey, slice of brisket, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, stuffing and a cookie.

I wanted to run away with the pan of macaroni and cheese but thought that wouldn’t be a smart move with our site manager in the room 🙂

Cheesy goodness

Even Lincoln will be eating good tonight!

I stopped at TJ’s after the bus ride home to pick up bread, salsa and these babies which I read about on Danica’s blog.

Trader Joe’s Lite Kettle Corn Snack Bags!!!

These are the perfect size, only 110 calories per bag and have four ingredients—popcorn, sugar, sunflower oil and salt. The shorter the list the better!

I’m not feeling so hot and my throat has gotten worse as the day has progressed.

I needed something easy and hot for dinner and decided on Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup

I broke out my Trader Joe’s Low Sodium Organic Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper Soup

I love this stuff! I think the regular tomato soup brands out there are too sodium ridden and I don’t need anything helping me with feeling bloated

I used Trader Joe’s Whole Grain Bread

The statement I love cheese may be an understatement! I used Kraft Singles and shredded cheese for the grilled cheese

Grilled for seven minutes while the tomato soup was heating up and behold, the beautiful outcome:

I don’t even want to admit that I was singing “Cheese-a-licious” to the tune of Fergalicious while diggin in

My version:

It’s Cheese-A-Licious

It’s melt-y

So delicious

I grill the cheese on whole grain

Cheese-A-Licious

I never claimed to be normal 🙂

I sprinkled some pepper on my soupn for extra flava

A perfect meal and I will be having dessert later!

If I want to go to Indiana, I need to get better by tomorrow. If not, no dice. I simply cannot go be all high energy and make an 18 hour trip by myself if I am sick. Boooooooo!

But then on the flip side, if I do get worse I will have to go see my hot doctor who is a younger and less white-haired version of this fella

I was reading.watching Kelly’s Blog and Vlog last night and she was talked about how it’s the end of the first quarter of the year, what have you accomplished? She made a terrific point of how we are evaluated at work on our performance by month.quarter.etc. but do ever evaluate our accomplishments, things we can work on, etc. when it comes to our health and fitness? I never thought of it that way and I think it is a totally valid point. I know I say I am going to eat healthier, work out more, etc. but how am I accountable for that? I am going to think about this further when I don’t have a horrible headache and feel like I can breathe and figure out what my goals for the second quarter are going to be health and fitness wise.

What I accomplished in the first quarter of 2010

*Bought a kettlebell

*Tried many new foods such as

-Brussel Sprouts

-Tempeh

-Baby Spinach and Green Monsters

-Incorporate more fish in my diet

-Spaghetti Squash

-Rolled Oats

*Ran my first 5K!!!

Things that I could have done a better job on

*Work out more with kettlebell

*Have a more structured running plan

*Snack less

*Not buy 75% off Valentine’s Day chocolate

*Track what I eat

*Listen to what my body wants not want my head wants

*Stop making excuss or justifications for what I eat

*Drink less beer

I encourage you to check out Kelly’s blog. She is so high energy, motivating and I don’t really think she’s human since she seems to do it all! And I would give up cheese if I could have her arms and shoulders in return. And her vlogs are hilarious.

Question: What have you done in the first quarter of 2010 and what are your goals for the second quarter?
