The hangover and a friday re-cap

20 Mar

My Friday routine was pretty normal to start out with

I started my day with a Green Monster made with Sunny Delight, greek yogurt, pineapple, strawberries, baby spinach and soy milk

I had a granola bar on the bus while catching up on my reading

I later had a more filling breakfast of oats, Oikos honey green yogurt, unsweetened coconut and flax

Yesterday was another crazy busy day at work. I like being busy and all but I do not get to catch up on my blog reading and other things when it’s busy so bummer 😦

I saw the idea of tuna and guacamole mixed together on Savor and Stretch a few days ago. I would have never thought to mix this together but sounded too good to pass up! I had avocado on hand and decided that would be similiar with my tuna sandwich.

I tried Starkist Tuna Salad pouch which I’ve never had

I slapped this on some whole wheat bread with chopped onion and jalapeno with tomato and avocado pieces

With a side salad of baby spinach, tomato, mushrooms, avocado and T Marzetti Light Balsamic

One of my best lunches ever! I was pleasantly surprised with the Starkist Tuna Salad pouch. It was really tasty and I didn’t need to add mustard like I normally do on my tuna sandwiches. The flavor was just right and didn’t taste completely sodium ridden. The chopped onions and jalapenos added a nice kick to the sandwich and the avocado just added creamy goodness to it. I loved the combination! And you can never go wrong with a fresh salad, it was light, filling and just great!

I went to the library in the afternoon to pick up a pick I had on hold:

And once I saw how beautiful it was outside, I needed to get outta work so I caught the early bus home and texted my neighbor to see if she wanted to do happy hour. She said she was definitely in and while on the bus ride home, I kept smiling and bouncing in my seat like a five yr old since I was so excited for happy hour after an interesting work wk.

I played with my camera phone to distract my thoughts of streams of endless, cold beer. I kinda look like an angel with the light shining on me!! hehe

Hello lova

I heart beer. And I heart $2 beer even more.

But I heart bar food even more.

Yummy, I  love the cheap cheese sauce they put on nachos. It is an indulgence I only give into every few months but when I get it, I practically lick my plate clean!

So all was good, my neighbor was having man drama and I was listening to her situation. These two guys were sitting a few tables away and one came over and said his friend thought I was cute but was too shy to come over. Ugh. Ok sweet, yes. But really? He looked like he was late 20’s/early 30’s and he doesn’t have the balls to go talk to a girl? Whatev. When I go out, I think I am pretty approachable, smiling and stuff (especially when cute boys are near).

The guy who came over to the table kinda looked like Phil Hartman playing the cave man on SNL

But with shorter hair but very cro mag looking. Anyways, I said to him if his friend thought I was cute, he can come over and join us and talk.

At first things seemed normal. Friend was very cute (kinda looked like an ex from college) and we were talking. Then two more of their friends came over but all four together= sketchiness. I asked how they all knew each other and they wouldn’t say, which automatically makes me think prison. One of them was on vacation and said he worked in Australia but was here visiting family. So me being inquisitive, asked where in Australia and he didn’t know. WTF? How do you not know where you live? At least throw out Sidney or Melbourne, cmon. But the fun didn’t stop there, oh no. Cro mag and cute boy started talking how they could each kick each others asses. And then cro mag tackled cute boy—-oh the patio, at out table and ran into another table of older people who were enjoying a meal. The place went silent and everyone’s mouths were gaping and wondering what just happened. The bar owner kicked them out…..and this was at 8P!!After that my neighbor and I got our tab and split, too much drama!!

I came home and was feeling good and wanted to go out still, even if it was all by my lonesome.

Seeing that I woke up at 6A, I needed a little pick me up so I made a pre-party green monster because I am a dork and make green monsters before going out!

And then I was off! I had no clue where I wanted to go so just started driving around. I don’t have a problem going out alone because A) I don’t get sloshed and B) Don’t have a problem talking to people when I go out.

I decided to go to Thomas Street Tavern in the Plaza Midwood area of town

I haven’t been to Thomas Street in a good two years since it is a drive for me but soon remembered why I love this bar. They have an awesome outdoor patio complete with stadium seat benches near the ping pong tables and it’s dog friendly. I got a beer and started talking to this group of guys next to me. Turns out they were all originally from Serbia and I am part Croatian. I ended up chatting and hanging with them for a few hours. I was asking lots of questions about Serbia and how it differs from living in the US. And then they were talking about they lived in a village and this was the first thing that came to mind

I was like “Oh, like the village from the Safety Dance video?” And they had no clue what I was talking about! I proceeded to hop around and sing “Safety Dance” and yeah, still no clue what I was talking about. I made them promise they would google it today so I hope they do! How fun would it be to see a midget jester hopping around? That thought just brings a smile to my face!

The Serbian guys wives showed up and talked with them for a little bit. I love how out of all the guys at the bar, I end up with married ones lol. I ended up rolling out at midnight……which is WAY past my bedtime and wanted some greasy fast food so I hit up McDonalds. Only to find that their card machine was broken so they were talking cash only, which I never have. Grrrrr. Instead of a burger, I chose the next best thing—Totino’s Pizza Rolls!

Ahhhh these bring me back to high school days when I used to eat these all the time!

I soon fell into a deep slumber only to wake up to not one, not two but three text messages from an ex boyfriend who I dated back in college (yeah seven years ago). They always come back for more, I guess!

I felt like hell this morning and needed food fast so I put together a mushroom and cheese omelet

I lounged around, drinking coffee and water. I wanted to enjoy the weather but was soon on my way to go get my hair done. I haven’t been to my girl since December and as she put it, my roots were “trifling” lol I usually get some blonde highlights but decided to do something a little different time time along with the blonde……red!!

I absolutely love it!!!

I had a groupon coupon I have been wanting to use for ZiZi’s Vegetarian Restaurant which is near my hair dresser and decided to stop there on my way back.

I got the cajun tofu strips and faux meatball sub but this is a carry out only joint so had to drive with the food smelling so good–I hate that!

I can’t have a meatball sub without cheese so I broiled for about 10 minutes and voila!

The cajun tofu strips were amazing! The meatball sub reminded me more of a chicken philly sub than anything.

This is yet another reason I don’t like Charlotte. This happened right in the uptown area, two blocks from where I work, very sad.

Ugh, feeling so hungover right now. I don’t drink that much anymore but when I do, I throw down. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Do you have a quick minute?

16 Mar

I really, really, really hate when people say this. “Do you have a quick second?” is even worse but still, what kind of world do we live in that a minute isn’t quick enough? I don’t want to be lied to, if you need me just ask if I have a few very long minutes. I will respond a little more enthusiastically I’m sure.

Ugh, Tuesday. It’s good to see you again . You have no feeling but I still suffer through you each wk. On the flip side- I woke up to David Muir-hello beautiful man!

I love sleeping in and getting to catch some of GMA before I catch the late bus into work. The only thing that sucks is that the late bus is always full (can you blame people for wanting to sleep in?) so I have to go all the way to the back of the bus and get crammed in the last row. Makes me think of this

I forgot my Fit & Fresh cup at work so regular coffee and no GM today but tomorrow it’s on! When I went to Earthfare this wknd, big packages of baby spinach were on sale for $1.99 so I stocked up. Those puppies are usually $3.79 so when I see it for cheap, I horde all that I can.

I grabbed an iced coffee from Starbucks with cream and 2 pumps of sugar free cinnamon dolce-so refreshing!

I had a granola bar since breakfast wouldn’t be until later. I like taking the late bus because I can sleep in (duh!), have a little to eat in the AM along with my coffee and be fine until 10A or 11A when I have my real breakfast. When I go into work earlier, I am famished and end up breakfasting it up around 8A and then hungry again at 10A.

I decided to give Oikos Honey another chance since I bought five for $5 the other day. I gave it another chance more so for that fact alone because I am super frugal and hate wasting food. I paired it up with strawberries, flax, unsweetened coconut and granola.

Oh Oikos—you redeemed yourself! This was great and not a fail like last Friday when I tried it or TJ’s European Style Chocolate yogurt yesterday.

I tried Brothers All Natural Fruit Crisps that I won over on Live, Love, Eat and Play

WOW. I was pleasantly surprised. I normally don’t like the crisp snacks but these were amazing!! The taste was fresh and light. It was a perfect snack to get me through to lunch. I will be trying these again and with stats like that, you can’t go wrong. Thanks Brothers!!!

I was super busy at work which was great! It makes the day go by faster and in general, I just work better with deadlines and have a number of things to do before I leave. Before I knew it, it was lunch time and I got to dig into my tofu pad thai leftovers from Sunday night. I was so excited for this (yes I get excited about food, I can’t help it!) It was fabulous !

And right after that—I found a picture of me from the 5K on Saturday!

Soon it was time to go home but for once, a success of a day! Nothing extraordinary happened but I wasn’t depressed at work for once. So yay for not being sad at work! Now if I only had co-workers who liked to go to lunch or happy hour …..

I was reading Whole Body Love the other day and learned that Kashi is made by Kelloggs, which I never knew. I decided to look further into this and didn’t know some of these organic brands were owned by big parent corporate companies…click here for a beautiful flow chart. Some examples are—

Odwalla (Coca Cola)

Naked Juice (Pepsi)

Boca Foods (Kraft)

Morningstar (Kellogg)

And more—just check out all under the Heinz umbrella!

I was craving mexican for dinner (shocker) and got yet another bag of avocados at Trader Joe’s so it was on like donkey kong! I decided to try something other than quesadillas or nachos which are my two staples. Thank god I don’t know how to make flautas-that would be the death of me!

I went with a taco salad made with baby spinach, black beans, Morningstar Veggie Crumbles, avocado, shredded cheese, jalapenos, tomato and onion with a side of Mexi Cream dressing (salsa and greek yogurt)

Good Lord this was some good stuff and filling! The warmer is gets the more I crave  salads 24/7 !

I did a 30 minute kettlebell session along with some planks, pushups and crunches. Nothing too strenuous but it felt good to work on strength training again since running has been my main focus point the past two months. My calves are still hurting from the run on Saturday. I was talking with a co-worker who has done some races here in Charlotte and she said they always incorporate those damn hills into the races-grrrr.

Lincoln and I took a 20 minute walk and I did some cleaning while waiting for Lost.  I think it’s great this season but I zone in and out when it’s on Tuesday nights so usually re-watch during the wknd. In the past, I used to go onto the message boards online and read what everyone’s theories were for the episode that aired (have I mentioned that I am a dork!?) but haven’t really done that this season. I think it’s because it’s the last and I will have all the time in the world to do that.

I have a lovely plate of hummus and wasa crisps to accompany me with Lost tonight

Want to win some Krema and Crazy Richards Peanut Butter?? Click here–you got until Friday to enter!

I have some personal drama going on right now and some things I need to figure out , so  I’m hoping that doesn’t keep me awake tonight and I can get a good night’s sleep.

12 Mar

Going back to work was super tough today but it’s Friday so who cares?? Never week is going to be super tough because one of my deals is coming off hold and I am backing up someone on my team while they are out of the office so I am hoping for smooth sailing.

I woke up a little later than planned (I was sooooo tired from having the past two days off! 🙂 ) and caught the train to work. When I leave for the day and lock my door, I have to sing a song to myself to help me remember than I locked my door. And today I didn’t so I was on the train reading my book and wondering if I locked the door or not…..and quickly driving myself nuts!! I contemplated getting off the train, catching one back to my car and driving home to check but couldn’t bring myself to do that. I was crossing my fingers that I did lock it!

I got to work and surprisingly, my email wasn’t too out of control. When I’m out of the office, it gets so back logged I spend half the day just trying to catch up so I’m happy that wasn’t the case.

For breakfast, I had Oikos Honey and a banana mixed together

It was my first time trying this flavor and what did I think?

Holy nastiness Batman!!! I thought it was just horrible and had to choke it down because I needed something in my system.

I snacked on some almonds before lunch

But my lunch totally redeemed my faith in my meals for the day

I had a red pepper hummus and avocado wrap

Naomi posted a wonderful wrap tutorial on Wednesday so I decided to put it to work since no matter if I put too little or too much in a wrap, it sucks.

Perfecto–thanks for the lesson Naomi!! This was a delicious light yet filling wrap.

I had some extra hummus as planned so had that with sliced mushrooms and red peppers to use for dipping

People kept coming into the kitchen while preparing all of this and were uber curious as to what I was making. I schooled the co-workers on making a wrap and one guy came in saying he has never bought an avocado before, only having them in restaurants. After calling him a communist, I took him what to look for color and feel wise. I felt like I had my own talk show for a good five minutes! Ahh dreams 🙂

I came home and the door was locked-phew! Lincoln was happy to see me and we went on a walk before it started pouring.

I had no idea what to make dinner….I kinda wanted nachos but also wanted some carbalicious. I had some potatoes to use in the next few days so I sliced some up and poured evoo and some no salt seasoning on them and let bake for 20 mins at 375 degrees.

While those were baking, I scrambled some eggs and chopped up some onion, jalapenos and parsley.

The final product : Cheesy Eggy Potatoes topped with onion, jalapenos and parsley.

I can’t do taters without ketchup

Hoping some will fall

I’m just taking it easy tonight since I gotta be up for the 5K tomorrow. I am so excited and nervous at the same time! I don’t know what to expect and what  kind of people expect to be running so I think those two combined are making my nerves go outta control. Also, my right calf has been bothering me so I have been trying to stretch it out and loosen it up a bit. I heard there is going to be 1,000 + people running which is awesome since this is the first one in our area. Since this is my first run, I’m really not concentrating on what my time will be. However, I will be really pissed off if I am dead last! There has to be someone slower than me right?? I hope so!

I picked up my race packet yesterday full of goodies–a nice lightweight shirt, copy of Runners magazine and muchos coupons. There is even going to be Caribou coffee afterwards which will be much needed! Come on 645—bring me luck!

I;m completely pooped, this three day work week stuff is killing me. I’m calling it an early night and relaxing b/c I gotta wake up early tomorrow. The weekend is here and I hope everyone is having a fun time or looking forward to fun times. When I write tomorrow, I will have ran my first 5K—eeeeeeek!!!
