PS, I miss you.

20 Jun

Sunday was the day that wouldn’t end. Maybe because I woke up at 6am and didn’t go to bed until 1am that night or the fact that we are approaching June 21st.

I don’t know why I woke up so early. I was tired the night before so I thought I was going to sleep in late on Sunday. I was up until 1 or 2 the night before but not due to anything crazy

(source)

Well not too crazy. Just something Samantha Who? I completely forgot about this show but used to watch it religiously when it was on. There *poof* one day it was canceled like a lot of the witty shows out there. Ok, maybe not as witty as Arrested Development (RIP I miss you) but I always got a kick out of it and loved the cast. After watching it for a few hours (on a Saturday night because that is how I roll), I realized how much I miss it. It’s great to be able to watch all the episodes on Netflix.

I went to Starbucks for three hours in the morning to catch up on emails, blogs, internship, etc. It was weird for a Sunday morning because of Father’s Day. when I first walked in, I was amazed at how serene it was but then hoards of family with misbehaved children would come in then again, it would empty out. Then this one obnoxious family came in to meet another family. The mother was looking around in amazing and shouting “WOW, IT’S SO QUIET IN HEEEERRRRREEEE!” I wanted to claw her eyes out because of her volume and because of the irony. Homegirl would not shut up and I pondered the thought of going to say something. But then I didn’t want to be the one who ruined Father’s Day for their family, because I am nice like that.

I came home, took Lincoln for a mile walk then went to the gym.  I was hoping the gym would be dead but it was like a normal Sunday on crack. I really wasn’t in the mood to do anything so I did 13 minutes on the Precor AMT, 17 minutes on the bike then did upper body:

*Shoulder Press (12.5 lbs 13 reps x 3 sets)

*Reverse Fly (12.5 lbs 13 reps x 2 sets)

*Row (12.5 lbs 13 reps x 3 sets)

*Front deltoid lift (12.5 lbs 13 reps x 3 sets)

*Fly (20 lbs 13 reps x 2 sets)

*Chest Press Fly (20 lbs 13 reps x 2 sets)

*Compound Row (80 lbs 13 reps x 3 sets)

*Lateral Pulldown (65 lbs 13 reps x 3 sets)

By the time I got home I was so hungry but didn’t know what I was in the mood for. I’ve been craving noodles lately so I made spaghetti with spray butter, garlic, red pepper flakes and grated parmesan.

How is it that something so simple can taste so good? I measured out my spaghetti portion and this is a single portion. I could have had two more bowls and been happy.

And more packing, I won’t even spare you all the details. I’m going to Atlanta on Wednesday or Thursday for a night sans Lincoln . I’m meeting my parents to give them a bunch of my stuff to take to Florida. Other than that, I’m giving away everything or taking a few boxes and packing up my car once my lease is up on the 30th (less than two weeks left in this place—eeks!) I hate giving everything away but at least I can write it off on my taxes. Also, I wish I had my SUV still so I had more room because a Corolla just ain’t cutting it.

I stopped by Harris Teeter for some produce since I didn’t get a chance to go to the farmers market. They had buy one, get two free blueberries so I stocked up. I figure what I don’t use in the next few days I can freeze (right? I hope so)

Then I started dinner. I chopped up a green pepper and half an onion, added drained black beans, garlic and red pepper flakes then warmed up on the stovetop

One thing I forgot? Salsa. Usually a key component in tacos but thanks to my friend Texas Pete, I had the heat on hand.

With some fresh dessert afterwards

I completely forgot to announce the winner of my giveaway!

Sophia from Burp and  Slurp—congratulations! Please email me your address—simplyshaka@gmail.com

What show do you wish was still on? For me, it’s definitely Samantha Who?, Arrested Development and  Lost (at least we got some closure with that one)

That’s funny- I love the same simple noodle dish as you! My mom used to make me plain spaghetti w/ butter, parm, salt & pepper and as I got older, I started adding the crushed red pepper flakes. Total comfort food! Doug doesn’t like it because he’s a terrorist, apparently.

I think the shows I miss the most are HUGE! and Arrested Development. And Party Down. And probably 8 other shows that I can’t remember at the moment…

I LOVE PARTY DOWN! Is there a second season out there or just the one I got off Netflix?

Doug is totally a terrorist if he doesnt like that dish.

#1, as much as we talked this weekend, i failed to mention that i watched the ENTIRE first season of American Dreams – yes, ALL 25 episodes! – between Friday night at 11pm and Sunday at 9pm. I NEED to netflix the other 2 seasons! oh wait. first i need to JOIN netflix.

#2, i miss Samantha Who too. (yes, i’m rhyming now! you weren’t aware??)

#3, i bought a handful of smaller bowls and plates when i went to IKEA on Friday. it helps the mind think that your portions are larger than they actually are. I LOVE my little rice bowls that I’ve had for years, but the new ones are even smaller. And my new plates are about 2/3 the size of the smallest plates in my cupboard. It’s all a mind game…

    #4, i miss you too! 😉

#5, stay tuned for NEW blog. i promise i’ll start it this week. but i think i have a new, better first entry title… mwahahahahaha…

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:45 pm #

You can always borrow my netflix log in 🙂 I will have to check that show out sometime!! I can’t wait for the new blog…..and to buy new plates and bowls once Im settled!!

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:43 pm #

Im cracking up that you said crack a lacking 🙂

I too have three pints of HT’s blueberries in my freezer that I don’t know what to do with!

Good luck with the big move! I’ve been in Charlotte for 11 years and I have no plans to leave because the whole packing/moving/unpacking ordeal is not something I’d want to do again.

And I’d have to say that I miss my Gilmore Girls and watching with friends in the dorm during college, ah good times.

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:43 pm #

Moving is suck a pain in the butt. I just need someone to tell me where to go so I can settle down and never have to move again. As for the blueberries, I’ve been adding to cereal and smothies and freezing the rest to use next wk!

      I LOVE GIlmore Girls!!!

I’m gonna be cliche and say I miss Friends. I wanna know what Monica and Chandler are up to. And hang with Phoebe at the coffee shop… Sigh…

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:42 pm #

I went to Smelly Cat Coffeeshop the other day and really wanted to be at Central Perk.

  7. Jessica @ Stylish Stealthy and Healthy June 21, 2011 at 8:47 am #

I have to say Arrested Development, Freeks & Geeks and (oldie and totally random) but Felicity! It was my favorite show ever and it got cut so short 😦
Where are you now, sexy Scott Speedman??

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:41 pm #

I dont know who Scott Speedman is but if he is sexy, I want to learn!!

  8. diana@mymarblerye June 21, 2011 at 9:15 am #

arrested development and freaks and geeks…and my so called life…AHH so many good shows!! Anyways good luck with the rest of your packing!!! AHHHH

  9. Erin June 21, 2011 at 9:44 am #

Arrested Development was great. I also really miss creepy classics like Alf, Charles in Charge, and the Facts of Life. But more recent shows? I’m disappointed Mad Love won’t be returning!

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:39 pm #

I watched the first season of Mad Love but couldnt get into it. I was bummed since I am all about Bill Paxton!

Creepy classics, lol. I want Charles in charge of me.

  10. thecookiebattle June 21, 2011 at 9:54 am #

I wish the Shield was still on (best show that has ever been on television EVER) and Sex and the City of course!

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:39 pm #

Sigh, edited SATC on TBS and E! just doesnt cut it.

  11. BikiniBy30 June 21, 2011 at 10:13 am #

Journeyman was such a great show that pulled at my Quantum Leap loving heart strings! I think it just got lost in the mix.

Carpoolers was also hilarious, but alas, it was cancelled mid-season as well.

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:38 pm #

I wanted to watch both of those but never got a chance–will have to Netflix them.

  12. Carly June 21, 2011 at 10:21 am #

Gah! I miss Arrested Development way way too much. Too good!

  13. OliePants June 21, 2011 at 10:29 am #

Congratulations to Sophia! I definitely miss Arrested Development. I wish the movie would finally just happen! I also miss Rome on HBO. So freaking good!

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:38 pm #

Me too, sigh. I stopped paying attention to whats going on with it.

  14. Alyssa @ Life of bLyss June 21, 2011 at 12:02 pm #

I SO miss the O.C. so badly.

and oh my gosh, I totally just got the urge to make garlic buttered noodles tonight. thanks a lot, Tiffany.

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:37 pm #

Great show! Lmk how the noodles turn out 🙂

  15. Monique June 21, 2011 at 12:52 pm #

I miss Pushing Daisies! it was the greatest creative show ever. awesome concept too

  16. Natalie @Will Jog For Food June 21, 2011 at 6:51 pm #

Too funny! I used to do the same exact thing with spray butter & pasta 🙂 SO good and SO easy 🙂

  17. akismet-51cba40181d82691fb56fea7259563da June 21, 2011 at 7:25 pm #

Dude. Spray-on Butter? I don’t think Fabio would approve.

And for what shows I wish were on TV still…it’s hard to say because i’m stuck in a time warp. I guess i’d have to say Perfect Strangers and Cheers. Any show based in a bar I can pretty much get down with.

    • simplyshaka June 21, 2011 at 10:36 pm #

Cmon, give me a break (pun intended with a good show I miss), I’m trying to go through the stuff in my fridge and not buy anything, along with watching the calories. I used to love Perfect Strangers!

  18. Laury@thefitnessdish June 21, 2011 at 10:33 pm #

haha I totally forgot about that show too!! I watched it randomly when it was on. It was cute!

  19. Ashleigh June 22, 2011 at 3:27 pm #

I am sure there are a bunch of shows I wish were still on but I can’t really think of any that I miss. Maybe SATC, but I hated the last season.

Totally off topic, but CVS is having major sales and extra bucks deals going on right now. Thought you may be interested! They have power bar bites for free and super cheap tooth paste!
