I really need to remind myself not to buy tons of fresh produce before I am set to leave town. I went to Trader Joe’s on Sunday night and got some staples for the week such as bananas, apples, onions, oranges, kiwi and mushrooms. I’ve been able to eat all of them except my beloved mushrooms. And to make it even more annoying when I cook with shrooms I always sing “My Shrooms” to the tune of “My Humps”
“My shrooms, my shrooms, my shrooms, my shrooms
Cooking baby bellas bellas and even shiratake”
I can’t help it, I turn everything into a song.
I made crock pot chicken the other day using Hawaiian marinade. I mixed the sauce with chicken broth then threw in leg quarter and cooked for seven to eight hours.
While that was finishing, I cooked red onions and pineapples with two tbsp of low sodium soy sauce and garlic then laid on top of the chicken
I had rice on the side then added a huge pile of shrooms on top to make a very filling meal.
The next day I enjoyed a heaping portion of mushrooms with eggs
On Wednesday, my friend and I went to Icehouse for lunch to use up a $20 Groupon I had. I need to start burning through all of these Groupon and Living Social deals I’ve bought before I leave so it’s go time. When we walked in, we saw this lovely sign. Game on.
It was only appropriate for me to get a beer. Because it was Wednesday, sunny and half off of course.
I got the Thai Noodle Salad with chicken and ate the whole thing, it was flavorful and refreshing, which was much needed since it was 90 something degrees out. Plus I’ve been craving pad thai like whoa lately so this subdued the craving for a few days.
Afterwards, we stopped by Not Just Coffee. I was in serious need of java. This is a new coffee shop and I keep meaning to go even though I’m a tried and true Starbucks gal.
But the thing is they have weird hours. They open in the morning, break for siesta then open back up at night and are closed on the weekend. I dig the siesta concept as I love an afternoon nap but closed on the weekends does not work well for me.
It’s a small joint with a couple of stools set up at the bar. We wanted something cold and both went for the iced mocha. The barista was friendly, took his time making the drinks and you could tell it was made with love.
Topped with some of the best whipped cream I’ve ever had and cocoa. Suck that baby down and go straight to my hips, well worth it.
And check out this beautiful mural right next door! Can we say love?
When I got home, I was out for the count. See above where I said I love afternoon naps, there is just something enchanting about them. I tried to wake up to go to a Yelp event but it wasn’t in the stars. My head was pounding and opening my eyes even hurt so I took some Excedrin and waited for it to pass. I wasn’t even hungry when I finally got up and running again so dinner was a bowl of pineapple and kiwi.
Ok, I lie, I killed the last of the cupcakes from the wedding.
The picture almost didn’t happen because it was that delish. Oh cupcakes, I can’t quit you. I’m glad you all enjoyed hearing about papi chulo and the meat parade. Maybe our paths will cross again and thanks for the mad compliments on that dress-I felt so pretty in it and scored it for $20 at Ross (originally $100) I think I will cry if I move somewhere and they don’t have Ross.
Oh yeah, I’m a brunette now!
I feel like I should be on Real Housewives of New Jersey with this hair color and surprisingly enough, this is my just near my natural color. But more to come on that later…
Do you like mushrooms?
Should I go back to highlights? Be honest, I can take it.
i like mushrooms too! Love the shroom-song, sounds like fun to turn everything into a song – is your life like living a musical then? Bet it is 😉 I can just envision you tapping away and flapping your arms while chopping your shrooms, hahah! (okay getting a little carried away here…)
Your hair looks amazing!
It’s funny because when I was dying my hair more regularly, it seemed I always opted to go darker in the summer. Guess I was hoping for an exotic tanned look? However, I was never that great at actually getting the tan….
Your hair colors looks wonderful!
Do you eat the skin on your kiwi?
I’ve heard of doing that, but I never have.
Loving the new hair!
The fungus among us! I love mushrooms and stick them in just about anything I can (well, food-wise.) I also love changing my hair color and am currently in my dark phase, although once it actually stays sunny and warm for more than five minutes, I will let the sun do it’s thing and help it out with some overpriced highlights.
I can’t even commit to a hair color for more than two months, which might be why I’m single (or because I say things like, “a fungus among us.”)
And how does a coffee shop that’s closed on the weekends stay in business?
Oooh, love the hair!!
We sing a version to “My Humps” to Baxter– “My Spot.” 🙂
Ooooh, I love the hair!!!
We sing a version of “My Humps” to Baxter– “My Spot” 🙂
Roll with the brunette for a while, change is good.
I have what I call “hair ADD” I love changing my hair all.the.time.
Currently trying to grow out an angled bob that went horribly wrong.
You are killing the dark hair woman! Love it! 🙂
You are also killing me (yet in a completely different way) with that ketchup. Ugh. Ketchup makes me sneeze.
Nena, in this weather those headaches are caused by the pressure changes. Two cold and sinus pills plus one pain releiver and you have instant healing. Also, get thee a sinus mask for nap time. YOu will thank me later. My headaches get so bad I cant move let alone open my eyes. I take the sinus pills with a nap and an ice cold mask and i wake up feeling amazing.
feel better
I love me some shroomies
and diva, love the hair! (and the dress!)
LOVE the new hair color!!! Though, I may be biased, heh.
Thanks a lot, Tiffany. Now I’ve got “mah shrooms, mah shrooms, mah shrooms!” stuck in my head.
Your hair is CUTE! I like both… but for summer, I like I liked the highlights even better. 🙂
I’ve made the mistake of buying too much produce before leaving for the weekend/week, many times before. Grocery shopping/ meal planning is a fine art I suppose.
Love the Mushroom song….lol. Also – I wish we had Trader Joe’s in Canada!! Argh. I would love that place, for sure.
I love mushrooms – your chicken crock pot meal looked so good. And easy! I like easy!
I’m a low-maintenance kind of gal, so I say, leave out the highlights. The dark looks great on you!
I’m a big fan of switching up haircolor, I just went from dark to highlights myself. But I say you stick with the dark shade for a minute, it looks good! And I second that on the pad thai, I’ve been craving it so bad lately that I’m getting some for dinner tonight 🙂
P.S. you won my giveaway, send your address to me!
I could really use a mocha iced coffee right now – especially one with the best whipped cream ever!!
I love your new hair! I say keep it just as it is! I could really use that mocha – especially during this time of the day. And, I too – like you (great minds) – eat the kiwi skin! 🙂
1. I will be making this Hawaiian concoction in the near future
2. Love sauteed mushrooms, hate stuffed mushrooms
3. Holy cupcake!
4. OMFG! Love the hair!!! Luuuuurrrvve
Love your hair! So cute! 🙂
And that coffee place looks pretty adorable. Though not being open on the weekends would definitely be a problem…
I love the new color- you look awesome! I had a conference for the past few days so I’m just catching up on posts but I have to say, I’m intrigued about papi chulo and the meat parade.
I say don’t get highlights! I’ve been growing out my highlights for the past 14 months (they were subtle..ish) and I’m digging sticking to natural color. Plus, it’s cheaper!!
I love birds but the mural is a bit creepy, haha.
Yesss, please move to the coast and be my roommate!! We can make up silly songs together (and drink 🙂 )!
I like your dark hair – it looks great! Honestly, you have enough pigmentation to go either way – plus, I sometimes think that either dark, dark or light, light hair looks the best!
You look smokin’ hot! I love the darker color on you. LOVE IT!
I want that cupcake. What kind of frosting is it?
I like the new look! Don’t worry: as a NJ gal (born, not reeeally raised) you don’t look at all Housewives.
Also: your post was 100% responsible for making me crave a mocha frappucino-type-thing all day. And they’re no longer half price – waaah!
Mushrooms to me are the most exquisite things ever. I LOVE them with a passion.
Hee hee, you and I will get along well, because I love singing randomly, too. In fact, I got into a fight with a girl in art class during middle school bc I wouldn’t stop singing.
That. is. awesome.
omg. can not get over that hawaiian chicken…looks better than any food i had in maui!! BTW love your hair!!! And did you get a new camera? Your photos have been so vibrant lately!
You must try it, it’s one of the easiest things I’ve ever made! And nope to new camera, just been spending more time on Picasa working with the colors 🙂
I didn’t read what others think above, but I love your hair! It looks great!
I love mushrooms. Most people I know don’t like them though.
