The wise man reads both books and life itself

30 Mar

First and foremost, thanks everyone for the encouraging words, thoughts and experiences of your own from  my last post.  I have so many emotions about quitting my job but feel like it’s the right thing to do for me and was relieved to see that others have been in the same boat. I was also pleased to see some haven’t been in the same boat and it hasn’t been all butterfly farts and rainbows so I appreciate the honest feedback!

Today was a pretty slow day for once, maybe it was because of the nasty weather outside? I woke up to rain hitting the window and knew it was gonna be one of those days. Lincoln didn’t even want to step foot outside and I begged him to just go potty for momma, I didn’t even care if he went #2 inside (he never does but I would make an exception for rain). And of course, it was one of those days where my hair looked awesome without even running a brush through it but once I stepped outside-hello Diana Ross! I felt productive in the morning but maybe that was due to this breakfast of champions?

And of course, I forgot my milk. I contemplated pouring the Red Bell &Cola into the cereal for a nano second but figured it would be the worst of the worst so I kept separate like a normal person. Because normal people drink Red Bell & Cola’s and eat cereal without milk for breakfast right?

But after a little trip to the library, all hopes of productivity went out the window. Maybe because I was really excited for the new reads I got?

And has anyone else seen Awkward Family Photos: The Wedding Edition? I was looking at this at work and I was dying from some of the pics. The girls holding up their dresses and the one with the coffin in the background are my personal favorites.

A preview of dinner since dinner is going to get an entire post of it’s own.

Those are fried risotto balls. Takes a guess as to whether I ate only two or not. Here’s a hint-I have a fried risotto food baby sitting inside of me.

What are your favorite books? Three favorites off the top of my head are

1) Bitter is The New Black (and basically anything by Jen Lancaster)

I rarely buy books anymore but make an exception for Jen Lancaster.

2) Smart Women Finish Rich

I read this two or three times a year

3) Affluenza

Did you participate in the Book It program back in the day?

Sometimes when I read, I still crave pizza. Hot, cheesy, pepperoni topped pizza. I blame this all on Book It.

I crave pizza – books or no books 😉

SCORE on the books! Yay! I MUST read that David Bach one…rich, yes, rich – so I can not worry about losing my job.

I have to go back and re-read your last post.

P.S I only read one of Jen Lancaster’s books “Such a Pretty Fat” but now that must change clearly 🙂

They were as amazing as they sound. I wish I would’ve brought ziplock containers to hoard!

Haha I love how crazy your food combos are, that breakfast made me chuckle. I have to say I can’t drink Red Bull, just not a fan. Your dinner looks yum and I don’t blame you for eating both. I think we could have a good meal together, I love my food too 🙂

I love Jen Lancaster! Girl is a genius, she is so hilarious!

I read books llike they are going out of style.

Good for you for quitting your job, life is way too short to be unhappy!!!!

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 10:07 pm #

She is awesome, I can’ wait for her new book to come out. I just hope she visits whatever city I am in!

  6. Autumn @ Good Eats Girl March 31, 2011 at 8:10 am #

I think your breakfast is completely normal! I, however, cannot drink Red Bull anymore….I think it has to do with all of the Red Bull Vodkas that I drank while in college. Whoops!

My favorite books as of right now….The Hunger Games series(if you haven’t read, you should!!!), Jane Eyre (all time favorite), I also love anything written by Kristin Hannah and Maeve Binchy! I love books! 🙂

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 10:06 pm #

I keep hearing good things about the Hunger Games but have no clue what it’s about, will have to check that out!

I can’t do normal red bull but like the cola version since it tastes like Coke!

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 10:03 pm #

I know you hate the food baby term so I like that you made your own version. All about an adult Book it Club–along with Adult Choose Your Own Adventure!

I loved Bookit! I had personal pan pizza like every time we went to “the city” to grocery shop and stop by a Pizza Hut! lol

Fiber and red bull… good girl!

  12. Erin March 31, 2011 at 10:15 am #

I think we are long lost sisters or something. Seriously Book It was my jam back in the day. I was racking up Pizza Hut pizza like it was going out of style!

Love all the book selections. Be sure to let us know how you like them! I tried Viva vegan and was a little thrown off by how many ingredients there were.

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 9:57 pm #

Oh, well I will definitely not like it then. I am all about the minimalism with my ingredients especially when they were obscure ones!

      Florida girls all the way!!

  13. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg March 31, 2011 at 10:26 am #

i am addicted to books. i just had this convo w/my boss this morning. i buy them used on amazon ALL the time, as well as at the thrift store. its kind of a problem…like a hoarder….because i dont always read them. yikes.
um, seriously those fried thingys look amazing.

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 9:56 pm #

I am the same way, especially with thrift stores. They are so cheap, I would be stupid not to buy them, that’s how I see it at least!

  16. According to Gus March 31, 2011 at 1:19 pm #

Book It! I loved that program…especially the Pizza Hut personal pan. 🙂

  17. Alyssa March 31, 2011 at 1:41 pm #

The awkward wedding photos took hours from my life… hahaha… too funny.

    Fried risotto balls? I’m intrigued!

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 9:53 pm #

I was looking at them at work and had to cut myself off. I could’ve spent the rest of the afternoon looking but didnt think they would approve!

  22. mirseven March 31, 2011 at 8:02 pm #

I have to say…super happy someone else still goes to the library! Totally not a fan of the kindle or other e-readers 🙂

    • simplyshaka March 31, 2011 at 9:52 pm #

Old school or no school! I refuse to buy a Kindle, Nook or whatever they are called, there is nothing like the feeling of curling up on the couch with a good book.

  23. lookingupwhileslimmingdown March 31, 2011 at 10:15 pm #

Did you really say butterfly farts? hahaha
I’m still on the waiting list at the library to get Bitter is the New Black. I think I need to just break down and buy it.

Yes to Book It! Random story…when i was in elementary school the principal said we read like 5000 books he’d spend the night on the roof and he did. Speed up 20+ years and the same guy ends up being my cousin’s new husband’s step dad and if course at the wedding I felt the need to talk to him about Book It. Aww…i miss personal pan pizzas. 🙂

  24. amanda March 31, 2011 at 11:20 pm #

those fried balls look and sound divine!

  25. Brittney April 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm #

    1) Thank you for introducing me to Awkward Family Photos. Hours of fun!
    2) YES, I totally did book it and LOVED the personal pan pizza and sporting my dorky purple button with star stickers on it!

Ugh! Wasn’t the weather just awful in Charlotte this week?! I’m so glad the rain seems to be gone at least for a few days! As far as favorite books, some of mine are: Like Water for Chocolate, Redeeming Love, and the first Confessions of a Shopaholic book. I feel like I never have time to leisure read anymore though and I really wish that I did. I need to schedule some reading time into my life. I have about 10 half-read books on my shelf right now; not even exaggerating…it’s pretty sad!

P.S. Have we met IRL before? You look so incredibly familiar to me! 🙂
