You can’t handle the tooth!

1 Feb

It was so nice to have Monday off, especially when I woke up and saw it was dreary, gray and raining outside. Perfect sleeping in weather and excuse to do nothing! And do nothing, I did. I hung around on Monday morning taking care of some stuff around the house and cuddled with Lincoln.I had a dentist appointment in the afternoon so I took the entire day off to have some Tiffany time. I haven’t worked the past two Mondays, work next week on Monday, have off the next two after that (I don’t work Valentines Day and then it’s Presidents Day weekend) and then working regularly on Mondays will resume after that.

Lunch on Monday was inspired by this commercial

Has anyone else seen the commercials for  Tuna The Wonderfish? They make me smile each time I see them.

Back to lunch—tuna melts with sweet potato fries.

I took chopped red onion and sweet peppers with packet of dijon mustard and mayo and mixed together with black pepper and ground mustard and spread on bread then topped with shredded cheese and broiled for 7 minutes. I had Alexia sweet potato fries cooking as well at the same time.

Big lunch? Hell yes. I had a dentist appointment at 1:30P to get a crown so I wasn’t sure when I would be able to eat again.

Let’s talk about crowns.

I thought a crown just went over your entire tooth like a casing. I did not know they had to shave down your tooth and that it would then act as your tooth. When they told me that, I wanted to up and leave but had to go through with it since it was for the tooth that I got a root canal on the other day. The entire process took about two hours, with them shaving down my tooth, molding the permanent crown (that they had to send out and will come back in a couple of weeks), molding the temporary crown and cementing the temporary one. Did I mention the tooth it was for my top front tooth? Oh no, I didn’t. I made the mistake of using the restroom between shaving down the tooth and replacing with the temporary and I looked like a man named Vlad who plays hockey. I almost started crying right there in the bathroom since my effin front tooth was gone!!! But, had to keep on truckin and wait to get the temporary put on. They finally finished up with that and booked another appointment to get the permanent crown on in a few weeks so let’s hope my tooth doesn’t fall out between now and then. Plus my dentist prescribed me some more vitamin v without me even asking for it!  They want me to get a bunch of crowns and I know my teeth are bad from not going to the dentist for eight years (yea, you read that right) but with them costing $750 a pop, I think I am going to get a second opinion because I really don’t have a spare $5000 set aside just for my teeth.

The rest of the night was a blur. I had a whole bunch of advil in my system and felt blah. My dentist was sneezing up a storm and I felt a bit sick as well. My nose wouldn’t stop running and I was sneezing every other minute. Suffice to say, I didn’t feel like cooking up dinner so if you’re looking for a healthy dinner with veggies incorporated I’ll just stop you now. Dinner was some quick comfort food-noodles and pudding.

Calci-Yum indeed! Note there is no picture of the pudding because I ate it up so quickly. It’s been ages since I’ve made instant pudding but was searching through my cupboards for something soft to eat and saw the package sitting there all lonely.

And just a note to myself, even though it’s been awhile, Lincoln still likes to eat paper so take the tissues with you when you get up

Day 6: Write 30 Interesting facts about you

Well, here we go

1) I hate revolving doors

2) I’ve lived in five states (IN, FL, WV, AZ & NC) and long to live in a few more

3) I hate numbers but work in the finance field

4) I have a major fear of going to prison. Mostly b/c of scary women’s prison movies I watched as a kid also b/c I would either be turned inside out within the first day or become the queen bee. I don’t know which one would be worse.

5) I don’t know how people can drop $100 on a top or pair of pants. I have no issue shopping at thrift stores, even if I do have the income to shop at normal stores.

6)  I don’t trust men who own cats

7) I love all things coffee and Starbucks isn’t my favorite coffee, it’s just the most convenient place for me. I’d much rather support a local coffee-house

8 ) I’m a hippie on the inside.

9) I hate when people say “No regrets” I have a lot of regrets, I will admit that right now. Do I dwell on them every day and think what I could have done differently? No. But still, I have a lot of regrets.

10) I wish I was a nicer person in college and soon  after. I’ve changed a lot and while I still have a mean streak for some people, I’m alot nicer than I used to be

11) I love midgets. Not sexually or anything, I just think they rock.

12) I’m not a PC person and will still call them midgies

13) I love crude humor think Family Guy, Dave Attell, Tosh, etc.

14) Red and black are my favorite color combination

15) I can’t go to bed if there is a sink full of dirty dishes

16) I miss my old apartment very much. I miss having carpet, storage space, a big kitchen, a bath tub, a home that actually warms up instead of feeling like I am in Antarctica all the time and a place that feels like home. The current house I like in is not home and I thought I would like it because of the location but I really dislike it and don’t feel like Lincoln is too keen on it either.

17) I can be a bit self involved at times

18) I wish I could go back to college and kick my advisor in the nuts.

19) I turn everything into songs (if you can’t tell by a lot of my post titles). The other day at work I walked up to a cube where two of my teammates were talking and said “Oh, sorry, is this a private conversation?” Then I broke into “Privaaaaaate Convo, a convo ’bout money” obviously to the tune of Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer” I can’t help it, it’s what I do.

20) My first car was a blue  ’87 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera AKA The Smurfmobile

21) I have two older sisters but always wished I had an older brother as well

22) I have a problem with authority

23) I know how to crochet

24) I will eat anything except for curry. The smell of it completely turns me off

25) I wish I could buy a doggie ranch where all dogs would be welcome–it would be called “Ruff Life”. They could run free, be happy, get doggie messages, have nap time and would have an all around great time

26) After my college days, I have absolutely no desire to ever drink an Alabama Slammer ever again in my life

27)  I am of Polish, Croatian and Italian background

28) The first movie I remember seeing in a theater was Police Academy

29) My first cassette I ever bought was Lisa Lisa and The Cult Jam “Spanish Fly” and first cd Lenny Kravitz “Are you gonna go my way?”

30) McDonalds has the best Coke ever. I don’t know what they lace it with but if I go to McDonalds, I must have their Coke.

So there you go-some interesting or non interesting stuff about me.

Has anyone else ever tried this tea? I bought this at Ross on a whim since I love anything chocolate + mint

It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites which is weird since I’m totally not a tea girl. I can’t help but giggle every time I hear the term tea bag, you know since I’m 14 y/o and all…..

Anyone else out there with crowns? Crowners unite!!

If you’re a hot tea person-what’s your favorite kind? I’m open to suggestions….

why am I always the first commenter? Oh…cause I stalk. Anyways I love chocolate flavored tea! Lily gave me a pack in charlotte and it was sooo good! Can’t believe it’s tea! Anyways I have a crown in the back…I admit it…I have bad teeth!! It’s crazy that the nerve is gone…kinda scary huh? Either way I love tuna! Just not tuna breath! BTW I have crude humor too! Can’t stop making bj jokes when I see bj wine coolers!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:51 pm #

Tuna breath is naaaaaasty, yeech! I need to find out what tea that was now! The no nerve thing still kinda creeps me out so does the fact that I will probably need dentures, sadface.

I love that you’re my stalker!

  2. Erin February 1, 2011 at 9:29 am #

I totally agree about McDonalds Coke. Wow…my weakness.

Good luck with the teeth! Unfortunately a neccessary evil when it comes to costs. Blah.

  3. Monique February 1, 2011 at 9:44 am #

i have one crown and the process was a DISASTER.
I was fitted for a temp crown and didnt know it was made with acryllic which i am highly allergic to. the entire inside of my mouth was covered in tiny blisters. it sucked

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:52 pm #

Oh my gawd, that does not sound like fun. Hopefully your mouth is in check now??

  4. Jenn L @ Peas and Crayons February 1, 2011 at 9:46 am #

The tuna melt and SP fries look amazing! I want THAT for lunch! ❤ Hooray for learning more about you with this post =)

  5. Amy @ Second City Randomness February 1, 2011 at 9:51 am #

Ewwww… Alabama slammers are so sick…

And what is it about dishes in the sink? I’m the same way since I started living on my own. Who am I trying to impress?

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:48 pm #

Exactly, it’s not like someone is watching me…..except Linx…..all the time.

I am wincing thinking of the Slammer, blech!

  6. Karla February 1, 2011 at 10:09 am #

Chocolate Tea! I’m intrigued! I’m a big fan of Yogi teas in general but their Black Chai is delicious, as is the green tea with kombucha!
As for crowns… no dice. My dad, sister, cousin, and aunt are all dentists. Sadly, I know very little on the subject.

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:47 pm #

I’m starting to get into Chai so I will have to check that out. I tried the Yogi brand before and really liked it!

You are hooked up with dentists huh?? Lucky girl, hope you stay crown free.

  7. Mindy@FindingSilverLinings February 1, 2011 at 10:39 am #

We have a lot of the same interests! You are one groovy chick!! I like random facts 🙂

Yay, can’t wait to see yours 🙂

  8. Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl February 1, 2011 at 11:28 am #

I was once told that I basically needed every single tooth in my mouth filled. When I went for a second opinion, they put a “watch” on one. I find that interesting 🙂

And I’m with you on the guys with cats…they need to be watched closely.

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:45 pm #

It sucks when that happens. I always have to keep in mind even though they are dentists, doctors, etc. they are still a business that needs to make money.

  9. OliePants February 1, 2011 at 1:27 pm #

I have to agree with #6 and #15 wholeheartedly! OMG I cannot stand the cat thing. I knew a guy (not romantically) who would have a framed picture of his cat. Next to a framed picture of his mom! Agh!! What a turn off!

    And #15 – I got yo back, girl! 🙂

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:44 pm #

Wow, that is a total turn off. Hello mama’s boy!!??

  10. Natalie @ While I Breathe February 1, 2011 at 2:18 pm #

that tuna melt looks awesome… you’d be proud of me, i had hummus on my wrap today… so great…

minnie will come to ruff life… 🙂

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:44 pm #

Hooray for hummus! I bought a tub that is just asking to be opened up. But I have nothing to dip into it with-boo.

  11. TheSceneFromMe February 1, 2011 at 2:26 pm #

I love hot tea, but usually just drink decaf lipton with several splenda packs in it. I think Bigelow makes a great almond flavored one too. I like to put some honey in my tea 🙂

    No crowns here, thankfully!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:43 pm #

I love almond stuff, I must check it out–thanks for the tip!

  12. Jen February 1, 2011 at 3:03 pm #

Yep, 2 crowns for me. Yay.
McDonald’s puts crack in their Diet Coke too, I have no idea what the hell they put in them, but it’s perfect and I must have more.

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:42 pm #

I agree. I’ve heard that they do something with their cabonation but I must get their Coke when I go and then switch it up to Diet Coke after one or two. It’s so fabulous!!

  13. Jennifer @ shesafitchick February 1, 2011 at 4:04 pm #

Love the idea with Tuna, so yumm!! Yikes, that is a lot of money, I would def get a second opinion as well. I have never had one and I hope i never need one.

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:41 pm #

Lucky girl! Keep going to your dentist for sure–I was stupid and took too long of a hiatus!

  14. Yum Yucky February 1, 2011 at 4:06 pm #

Gah! Why have I never had a homemade tuna melt yet!? I’ll all over it. Gonna force the husband to make me one.

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:40 pm #

Yummy, cheap, quick, love it. I need to find one of those husband things to cook for me.

  15. Amanda February 1, 2011 at 7:07 pm #

I hate dental procedures and how much it costs. Freaking A. Dentists have it made!!!

I am cracking up at the idea of you singing “Private Convo.” Awesome!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:39 pm #

I wish I would have become a dentist-they make bank!!!

  16. lookingupwhileslimmingdown February 1, 2011 at 7:23 pm #

Not even sure where to start with comments. I literally laughed out loud at Vlad. Not that it’s really funny, b/c I imagine it would be somewhat horrifying given that I have nightmares about my teeth falling out.

Remember what I told you about McD’s coke…it’s the straws that make it taste good!

Ruff Life…i so want to do it. I think i want to quit my job. Not really, I like it, I just want the joy of unconditional love every day that dogs give you and to not bring work home with me.

I love that you always bust into song. Makes me laugh.

    Feel better!!!!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:39 pm #

I have the same dreams too–what does it mean? I looked it up once and forgot but not sure it’s a good thing?

I love their straws but I think they do something with their carbonation as well. I need to swipe some of their straws soon.

Ruff Life Ruff Life Ruff Life. Lottery is tonight, lets do it!

  17. Kace February 1, 2011 at 8:00 pm #

Aww poor thing. Both of my parents have multiple crowns, root canals, etc. I’ve seen how much pain they can cause! Genetically my mouth is screwed….I really need to amp up the flouride. I do go 2x a year for a check up though, even though I no longer have insurance. My dentist is the best and he doesn’t charge me too much, just $50/cleaning!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:37 pm #

I wish I would have sucked it up and gone to the dentist a few years back when I should have. Damn you, fear.

$50 is super cheap, what a nice guy!

  18. Ashleigh February 1, 2011 at 8:38 pm #

I used to be OBSESSED with Pasta Sides! Back when I used to drink all of the time, I would eat a whole bag of them when I got home from the bar. No wonder I gained so much weight! I used to love the Parmesan garlic one!

I have an older brother, but always wished I had sisters!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:36 pm #

Isn’t hindsight a funny thing? I look back at all the drunken nights I had McDonalds and am like “Ahhhh, thats why I gained weight!” Those pasta sides are bomb though!

  19. Autumn @ Good Eats Girl February 1, 2011 at 8:57 pm #

I’m so glad that you posted this story about your crown…I have to go and get one over my root canal and am scared to death. AHHHH!!!

I will never forget my first car either…it was stinkin’ AWESOME!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:35 pm #

Oh sorry 😦 At least you know what to expect now right??!

  20. Jenn L @ Peas and Crayons February 1, 2011 at 9:50 pm #

OMG girl! I looove big earrings too! They make me feel skinny so i’m pretty much obsessed! Though I can only pull them off when I have longish hair. my little bob that I rock here and there will not support those giant earrings =)

    xo

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:34 pm #

I’m the opposite I love wearing mine when I have my hair pulled back in a ponytail 🙂

  21. Katie H. February 1, 2011 at 10:50 pm #

Aw Ruff Life is such a great idea!

I’m sorry about your tooth girl. Though I straight laughed out loud when you said you looked like some dude like Vlad. 😀

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:33 pm #

Thanks, I think all dogs and dog owners would love it. In my head, I like to think that!

I’m serious about the Vlad thing. I looked like I should’ve been making sweet love to the Stanley cup!

  22. happytalesblog February 2, 2011 at 1:43 am #

I may not have a crown but I sure to have an IMPLANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE telling people “I have implant” and slyly leave off the “s”… they look at me like I’m INSANE because I obviously am as flat chested as they come… Getting that sucker put in Fing suuuucked. Took over an entire year due to insurance woes. Couldn’t drink/eat anything super hot or super cold b/c I had to go an entire year with a metal post in my mouth with zero covering on it (I tell ya, I was hott stuff!)

Anyway… I say you and me open up this “Ruff Life” business. Linkypoops and Hapsmear would have a BALL running the place! Also! I know how to knit. Kind of. I know how to knit the middle of things… I can’t start or end a knitting piece for the life of me. Maybe we can have a beginners course in knitting at our “Ruff Life” doggyspa.

My goodness girly, I love your blog soooooo so much. It always MAKES my day. I can’t wait until we become real life friends!!!!!!!!! Charlotte ain’t gonna no what hit it!

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:32 pm #

hahahahahahha @ your implant. The whole saying you have an implant not the thing itself. That sounds like that really sucks/ And a year of just medium temperature food??? No thanks. I am typing this while one hand is rubbing Lincoln’s belly as well 🙂

I’m happy my blog makes your day, you need to stop with all these props, I’m blushing hahah

  23. squigglefloey February 2, 2011 at 3:41 am #

    I love chamomile…super calming.
What did your adviser do to you? haha.

    • simplyshaka February 2, 2011 at 7:30 pm #

He didn’t advise me well enough. Ugh. Working finance is definitely not my dream.
