Literally

31 Aug

Soooooo……lots of Jersey Shore fans out there huh? I think I am going to have to suck it up and watch it. I let ya’ll know if I regret it or not.I woke up this morning and was out of eggs. Boo to that. The only thing that would’ve been worse was being out of eggs and cheese.  That being said, I had a different breakfast.

Having a different breakfast apparently threw me way off of my A game coffee wise, I didn’t even hit up the Bucks today! And you know what, I lived to tell you all about so maybe going a day without the Buckies is possible?

I was pretty busy this morning bit it left me time for surfing the web and catching up on news. I found two interesting articles about rivals Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods:

*Trader Joe’s how they are the store on the rise and changing shopping in our culture:

I love how they say “It’s an offbeat, fun discovery zone that elevates food shopping from a chore to a cultural experience.” Because I couldn’t agree more

*Whole Foods on how they are an affordable necessity

When asked about the nickname “Whole Paycheck” Co-Founder John Mackey says “On like items, Whole Foods is very competitive. … We have 30,000 items, and you can probably find 30 on which we’re more expensive”  Really? Are we talking about the same Whole Foods because when I go there I only buy a few items since the prices are so inflated compared to my beloved, Trader Joe’s. I found it really interesting that he says their best-selling item are bananas out of everything in the store.

Today is Tuesday which means it’s Hippie Day. I got another batch of great produce including red pepper, sweet potato, apple, cucumber, zucchini.

I had leftover taco casserole for lunch today with a side of chips, I keep it healthy what can I say?

I got out of work a bit early so I could go to zumba class. The class was at 615P , I didn’t have time to make dinner but snuck a snack in before I headed out for it.

Can we say kicked my butt? I haven’t been in a few weeks and it was great to be back but tonight was a tough one.

Dinner was General Tso’s Chicken with quinoa and veggies

Red pepper, zucchini, red onion and string beans cooked in fish sauce and soy sauce with red pepper flakes, garlic and pepper

I was drying my bra in the kitchen since there is a hook right above the oven…..I never said I was classy. And now I have to re-wash my bra.

I used Trader Joe’s Mandarin Orange Chicken (frozen) but didn’t have any sauce leftover and used Kikoman General Tso’s sauce. I love making take out Chinese at home, tastes just like the real thing!

See, there is actually quinoa under there!

I walked over to Harris Teeter afterwards to fix this whole no egg business in my house. I always have eggs or egg whites so I’m confused how this happened. I found a beautiful deal while perusing the aisles at the Teet though.

Laughing Cow for only $2.50!!! I started chanting “Ahhhhh aaaaaahhhhhh ahhhhhhh” like a Benedictine monk but then switched it up to “Holllllllllllaaaaaaaaa” since it was a frickin sweet deal. I was only going to get one but I had to be a smart consumer and stock up.

Along the line of articles, did anyone see this article about the girl who lost 118 lbs and credits that to Weight Watchers, applied for a job with them and was told her her body mass index was too high? According to the article, her interview was going great and she had tons of experience teaching but then a question regarding her BMI came into play. She provided her weight and height and then the interviewer told her she  couldn’t complete the interview process any further. Anywho, I saw the article and thought that it was  absolutely ridiculous and hypocritical. Thoughts?

This day has left me exhausted, both mentally and physically. I think I am going to follow this boys lead …..except I won’t be passed out in front of my wine rack…..I will be in front of the wine cooler.

Ahahaha- love the random hang-dry spot. I know I could buy one of those drying racks for all the things that I hang dry. But why would I do that when I can stick bras on doorhandles all over the apartment and dresses off my kitchen counter? It’s all about being creative.

Exactly, I am all about the creativeness and frugality!

thanks for the news article links lady! Glenn already hit up Tjs in charlotte…I’m so jealous…I’ll be bringing an extra suitcase in a few weeks just for the tj goodies. BTW maybe we can take a zumba class on sat morning?

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:05 pm #

Oh yes, TJ’s is right around the corner so you need to stock up or you can pack a box and we can send to you!

I will check out the zumba on Saturday morning

I love TJ’s and Whole Foods, but it is Whole Paycheck no matter what! I have to hit up TJ’s later, but I tend to be in and out, I stick with what I know!
Jersey Shore is so worth it…I graduated high school with The Situation!

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:06 pm #

I know, I feel like I can get so much more at TJ’s compared to four or five items at WF, it’s ridiculous.

And wow lol at the Situation, thats too funny you knew him when he was Pre-Situation!

LMAO at your “new Potholder!” you are too funny. I live with a man so that is a straight no no!
I love me some hippies… but me thinks you know this already as per my obsessive rant last night. Love you to bits!
    xoxox

btw. how CUTE is that dog! seriously! i wanna squeeze him!

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:07 pm #

lmao @ bra drying spot. i have this rack that i always bust out when i need to dry my bras and its always front and center in our living room.

i love laughing cow wedges…so good!

as for the article, i think the girl should sue their ass. Discrimination yo! having a specific BMI is not a bona fide occupational qualification and it wasnt stated in the posting that it would be needed or asked. seriously people shouldnt even ask that shit in interviews. thats a legitimate suit right there…..obviously i work for lawyers too much and reading too much about EEO laws for school 🙂

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:08 pm #

Sigh, I am so lazy I don’t even want to buy or unfold a rack but if I did have one, it would be chillin in my tv room as well 🙂

Your opinion just made my head spin—look at you all smart with your lawyer talk!

The General Tso Chicken looks awesome! Much better looking than the ones they serve you at chinese restaurants. Hahaha and I love how your bra is just hanging there with the food!

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:09 pm #

Thanks girl, I love how it tastes and of course, saving money 🙂

  8. Laury @thefitnessdish September 1, 2010 at 6:47 pm #

I probably buy all the bananas at Whole Paycheck, haha…their prices are SO high!! I just won a 500 dollar gift card, got it on Friday, and HALF of its gone already!! If I got that to TJ, I wouldn’t even of scratched the surface. And all I got was diner a few nights, and my Amazing Grass…not even my protein!

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:09 pm #

That is absolutely insane! I feel like any time I check out at TJ’s, I’m shocked at how little it cost as opposed to WF and the opposite situation!

Zumba is the best isn’t it? So much fun an burns a bunch of calories.

I have been dying to try the new LC wedges, but I haven’t found them!

    • simplyshaka September 1, 2010 at 10:10 pm #

Booo, that sucks! This is the first time seeing the funky flavors so hopefully they will be near you soon 🙂
