She’s Quirky

17 Aug

I tried to do it. I got up, had my coffee and breakfast

I took Lincoln for a nice walk, showered and spent extra time in the shower trying to perk up but nothing. I have the tension headache from hell going on and was ready for it to go away. I hate calling in sick to work but when I feel like this, I really don’t want to deal with anyone or anything work related.

One thing that contributed to this headache was that……sigh……Lincoln kinda got attacked last night when we were out walking. We were  two blocks from my house on a residential side street where this older man was sitting out in his front yard with his dog sitting in front of him. We were about to pass in front and I said hello and his dog (who you would think would be on a leash?) lunged toward Lincoln and starting growling and biting him. Lincoln was whimpering and I was yelling at the dog while the guy was trying to get him and me trying to Lincoln in my arms. His paw looks swollen and he keeps licking it but besides that he seems to be ok. It’s just a little off-putting when we were just taking a walk and his dog comes at him out of nowhere. Then about five minutes later, I saw another guy with his dog not on a leash-wtf? If we lived in a rural area, that would be fine but we are in a city and there are busy streets around us. Lincoln now seems to be ok now but he is skiddish in the first place. If you’re a new person who he’s never seen, he is apprehensive when you pet or approach him. I don’t know if this has something to do with his previous owners and if there was an incident but that’s how he is.

Dinner last night was pizza quesadillas with turkey pepperoni and mushrooms. I threw some oregano and red pepper flakes on them while they were cooking for a little punch.

Apparently, I like mine really burnt. They were still tasty anyways 🙂

Today has been a completely relaxing day. I took some Excedrin Migraine this morning and it seemed to help a bit. I caught up on some reading and did some laundry. And Lincoln was right by my side as always.

Ok maybe not by my side so much as thinking that my body was his bed.

I had a BIG Salad for lunch with everything under the sun in it. Ok I am exaggerating a little but I will see if I can name everything that was in it:

Hardboiled egg

Gorgonzola Cheese

Purple Pepper

Tuna Salad made with carrots and red onion

pomegranate vinaigrette

I would be lying if I said I didn’t have some more retail therapy today. I got two cute dresses for my trip to Phoenix this weekend. My friend’s birthday  party is friday night and it’s a theme party—Playboy Bunny. Yay. I don’t want to see myself in bunny wear and I’m sure that means nobody else does (and I have very high self-esteem so yeeeeeah). I bought a cute dress at Ross with little fuzzies around the collar and figure it could be cute for that party since it is similar to a nightie. Pair it up with some cute heels and get drunk with friends, I can do that!

Afterwards I stopped for some fro yo. I contemplated getting peanut butter fro yo but I figured that would be a little too much for me since I am trying to get back to loving the nut……butters. I got mango and blueberry fro yo with kiwi, blueberries and strawberries topped with crushed graham crackers and coconut

Aww yeah.

I wanted to get off my butt and planned on having a 15 minute weight training session that turned into a 40 minute one. Nothing wrong with that. I enjoy those ones the most where I don’t think I am going to work out for long than go longer than expected.

I tried out my new Nike Dry Fit top but wore them with Reebok pants so I’m not sure if I am breaking any rules by that? It feels good to rebel sometimes. Who am I kidding? ALL the time!

I really liked this top. It kept the girls in place and I felt less sweaty and wet than working out in my normal workout gear. Two thumbs up Nike. My post workout snack was a smoothie in a bowl–almond milk, banana, vanilla whey, mint chocolate syrup

No picture of dinner tonight since I had a date and that would been a little odd to whip out my camera. We went to Tavern On The Tracks and had an appetizer of hot peppers and I had the meatball sub with french fries. Had some beers after that and the atmosphere was great. Good times had by all 🙂

I think I looked slammin. I wore my zebra print dress that proved successful on another date last week. I say screw pants until it gets cold out

Some cool things I’ve seen

*Julie Go Lean’s Giveaway for 10 Cedar’s Mediterranean Cuisine Products

*She-Fit’s Giveaway for 7 free Chocolite Bars

*Jess at Fit Chick In the City posted a link to Marie Claire’s Virtual Weight Loss Tool. This was a fun thing to play with. You can upload a photo of yourself, input your height and weight then adjust it to see what you would look like if you gained 5 lbs, lost 20 lbs, etc. Check it out–very interesting

*This post on loving your quirks

Some of my food quirks are (and I’ve been singing She’s Quirky to the tune of She’s Crafty ever since I saw this post)

*I love tomatoes and can eat them like apples but despise hot tomatoes

*Curry scares me

*You don’t want to see me without coffee. Whenever someone mentions Starbucks, Caribou, Dunkin Donuts, etc. my ears perk up and if you offer to buy me coffee, I do a happy dance

*If I order a meal that has french fries, I always eat the french fries first then whatever is left on the plate.

*I didn’t realize that ranch dressing  could be more than just a salad dressing until freshman year in college. I remember the night clearly, we went to Hardee’s and my friends asked for ranch dressing. This perplexed me a little  since no one had ordered a salad (although Hardee’s does have world-class salads) and they told me they were going to put it on their french fries. I attribute this event to my massive weight gain.

*I have something to drink around me at all times

What has two thumbs and is exhausted? This girl. Time to go back to work tomorrow and back to the real world.

What are your food quirks?

god i love animal print outfits ❤ ❤ definitely looking good on you 🙂

we have that same problem here with dog owners letting their dogs off their leashes. i mean they'll be completely oblivious in an area that has huge signs saying "all dogs must be on leashes"!! crazy huh!

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:43 pm #

      Thanks girl! 🙂

I just don’t understand it, it seems like common sense to have them on leashes and all, argh!

    Love the zebra dress!

Poor Lincoln… Little-bit has been bit several times, sometimes drawing blood 😦 … sometimes the owner is aware and helpful, sometimes not… it’s maddening when the owner is oblivious… hope the little guy is ok.

My food quirks… one in particular… not really sure how it started… peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chips and salsa… it just goes together. The smell of peanut butter makes me want salsa! Haha!

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:43 pm #

Poor Little Bit. It can always be worse but it just sucks to see him in pain 😦

And I’m intruigued by this one as well—–do you have chips and salsa on the side or put the chips and salsa in the sandwich? I like to think I can eat chips and salsa with anything!

      • nic - the auspicious squirrel August 19, 2010 at 12:09 am #

I usually eat the chips and salsa on the side… but I’ve had an occasion or two where I take a bite w/ the chip inside the sandwich for an extra crunch and a bit of salty. 😉

Oh no! I’m glad Lincoln is okay. That’s why i’m glad Boomer is big…she can defend herself if needed. A mother’s reaction is to protect her child though.

Mike hates when I wear mismatched clothes. I do it all the time too.

I have something to drink around me at all times also. I love PB&J with Doritos. I hate watermelon but love watermelon flavored things.

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:40 pm #

Ok so I am totally intrigued by your pb&j.doritos combo–that actually sounds really, really good!

i use to HAVE to eat my pizza with ranch dressing…my thighs feel ya girl. BTW phoenix? So jealous! I’ve been wanting to go there! And dogs scare me (secret’s out)…I would have been screaming at the sight of loose dogs….and I’m happy you’ve come to the dark side: nut buttah lovah…but to tell you the truth I don’t get pb froyo…only cheesecake and redvelvet…hahah!

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:33 pm #

Oh no, dogs scare you? I think you would love Lincoln, he is totally portable and can fit in your purse!

I’ve never seen red velvet fro yo, that would be the end of me!!!

  6. Amy @ Second City Randomness August 18, 2010 at 7:37 am #

Poor Lincoln! You’d think the guy would want his dog on a leash anyways just for safety of the dog in the city! (and because him and his dog are d bags)

I was the same with ranch dressing! I was thoroughly confused as to why a pizza place would send it with the pizza. Then I tried it and it’s like heaven shined down…

  7. christina August 18, 2010 at 9:18 am #

omg poor baby lincoln!! i hope he gets better. stupid dog without a leash should be kicked!!

i used to put ranch on my pizza crust…oh my. and i used to dip my french fries in mayo…SICK.

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:38 pm #

My sentiments exactly….about Lincoln. I never did the whole mayo thing with my fries but heard it was fabulous. Mayo kinda skeeves me out!!

Our neighbors big lab pinned down my tiny min pin once, and I screamed so loud my thorat hurt the next day. It was the scariest! My little one is a skiddish boy too. He is very protective of our apartment and is very selective with which visitors he befriends. Some people are snobby about it and hurt my feelings, but he had tough life before we adopted him, and sometimes folks just don’t get that.

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:37 pm #

I can only imagine how horrible that was! 😦

  9. Monique@She's Going The Distance August 18, 2010 at 12:33 pm #

Cuuuute dress!! Have fun in Phx!! It’s been a little rainy in my neck of the woods so it’s actually cooled down a lot. Weird huh….????

    And pizza quesadillas?!?!? YUM!!!!

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:35 pm #

I am just looking forward to some dry heat-I need a break from this suffocating humidity-blech!

I think I am trying to conquer pizza nachos yet. Why I am trying to turn Mexican dishes Italian, no clue 🙂

  10. shelby August 18, 2010 at 12:50 pm #

I have that Nike top, too! It’s the first tank with a built-in bra I’ve found that I can actually run in. Love it.

My food quirk is most definitely my hatred (fear, really) of pickles. *shudder*

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:34 pm #

Interesting-I used to buy pickles and eat a jar in one sitting—I love them 🙂

  11. genesis August 18, 2010 at 1:06 pm #

aw poor linc! i was running once and got attacked by a dog, who by right of the law should have been leashed. im sure i wrote a post about it. anyways i hope lil man gets better.

i love the zebra dress. totally rocking it girl!

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:33 pm #

I remember reading that post of yours…..eek 😦

  12. Erin @ A Girl and Her Mutt August 18, 2010 at 4:52 pm #

Poor Lincoln! Hope he is feeling better today. Loving the zebra dress!!!

  13. Mo Diva August 19, 2010 at 12:26 pm #

Damn girl! Lookin way sexy there!
    so proud of ya.

now this dog taht attacked my dog in law… do you have his adress…im sending caesar milan to lay a smackdown!

Seriously! when i first adopted Mickey, who was traumatized and underweight, i took her to the park to play with a ball. Someone elses dog was off leash and had some ball aggression… (personal problem if you ask me) growled at mickey and tried to take her ball. he attacked her. there was blood everywhere. and I cried like a baby while mickey put her tail between her legs and became afriad of everyone. The owner? “Oh hes just playing” I never wanted to fight so bad in my life. When i got home, only mickeys floppy ear was nicked but it bled like WHOA.

    • simplyshaka August 19, 2010 at 6:46 pm #

      Thanks girl 🙂

OMG That is horrible about Mickey, I can only imagine how pissed off and sad you were. Sadness 😦 I think you should come to NC and we can kick some ass together!!

  14. kat August 19, 2010 at 8:51 pm #

poor Lincoln! I’m sure he’ll shake it off!

CutCut got attacked once by two dogs and now whenever he sees them he barks like crazy. He’s a bigger dog but two on one had him rolling on his back! It was so scary and I was pretty irked at the owner…

    • simplyshaka August 20, 2010 at 10:39 am #

Poor CutCut 😦 What is up with this ridiculous owners??
