Retail Therapy is the Best Kind of Therapy

16 Aug

Good news-I got my registration renewed

Bad news-I didn’t get my NC license so it looks like I am still a Florida driver…..although I haven’t really lived there in over seven years.

I didn’t even get to take the test. Stupid me didn’t have a current insurance card and the most recent one I could find expired on 4.10. I tried to tell the lady I pay my insurance each month and that I could find a lot better things to do with the $80 something that goes towards that but she really wasn’t in the mood for insurance schtick and wasn’t amused by my humor (which in my book, you don’t think I’m funny, you kinda suck). I can understand though as I imagine there are many scammers that roll into the DMV each day.

Some reflections on waiting in line at the DMV:

*There are a lot of people out there who don’t know what personal hygiene is

*I think I was the only woman who didn’t have a knock off designer purse. I get my cute, big bags that are not name brand nor claim to be  at TJ Maxx thank you very much

*I am all about the love but is it really necessary to make out with your significant other in the DMV line?

* I keep confusing DMV and DMX—Get at me dog!!

* My workout session yesterday proved effective since my lower back was killing me while standing there and I can’t feel my thighs (thanks plie squats!)

I really had nothing planned for the rest of the morning. I had to stop at the Salvation Army thrift store to drop off a big donation and wandered in there for a little to see if I could snag any goodies

Mudd brown Mary Jane’s -$2.99

Books-$.99 each

Two tops-$1.50 and $3, not going out tops by any means but cute for work.

Polka dot bulletin board- $2.99

I stopped at Marshalls as well and got some other cute buys

Nike Dry-fit workout top- $10

Pink Halter top $3–HOLLA!

Graphic Top- $7

Mini Umbrella -$3

I stopped at The Common Market for lunch. I always forget that they have a newer location near my place and have been meaning to check it out. It’s an eclectic neighborhood convenience store but they also sell beer and wine (which you can enjoy there), deli sandwiches and a patio where they have live music, a dj, wine tastings and more! Check out their menu, they have some interesting wraps and sandwiches.

I went with the  Mid Eastern Wrap (Hummus and tabouleh with red onion, bell peppers, red cabbage and sprouts) on a spinach herb tortilla. I was going to just take it home but figured I was there so I might as well enjoy the patio. It was so peaceful out there and thankfully, not unbearably humid.

Such a beautiful wrap. This really filled me up and was delicious but the hummus or  tabouleh didn’t have alot of flavor so that was my only grip with it. Besides that, it was absolutely delicious and fresh!

Where my dog at?  He’s right here dog.

I am going to follow this boys lead and nap it up!!

PS-I am so happy to see that so many people agree on the ridiculousness of the no cupcake situation last night!! It makes me feel less crazy 🙂

i love DMV’s. they are so amusing. ours is in a small town so we dont get too many weirdos, but once in a while, its nice to just pop in and see who’s hanging out there. lol.

i have my test tomorrow and im hoping I dont crap my pants….i dont think they take points off for that but still, i dont want to risk it.

great job on the SA & Marshalls deals. I wish we had a marshalls nearby.

When I lived in Florida, that was the best people watching luck I’ve had at the DMV. At least you can go there knowing that you will have some entertainment.

You just reminded me that I should check out my local thrift store for some good reads. I always neglect my book reading because I hate paying $20 for a book I might end up reading only once!

    • simplyshaka August 17, 2010 at 8:17 am #

Exactly, I have much better things to do with my dough. Or I go to B&N, write down all the names then request them from the library. Anything to save money 🙂

OMG – SO cute photo of mudd shoes + dog !! 🙂

you found some great stuff – I’m impressed! I am not so lucky, although I don’t go that often and I have the attention span of a mailbox in those places… *sigh*

that wrap looks good – I love places like this – kinda market and deli in one… I may be Short Attention Span Theater, but I love to shop!! 🙂

I love thrift stores so much and am usually ADD like in stores but when I get there, I keep my eye on the prize 🙂

You had some serious shopping happening! Nice work!

I had to laugh at getting DMV and DMX confused. I swear I must have called the DMV DMX about 10 times before I realized I was saying it wrong and NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON said anything to me. Bunch o’ jerks. 😉

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:08 am #

Hahaha I’m happy to know I’m not thd only one who gets the two confused. And I totally hate when I make a mistake and no one corrects me, what’s up with that?!?

  9. Katie August 17, 2010 at 10:21 am #

That’s so true about the DMV. I think those are some of the reasons we all dread going there! PS: that hummus wrap looks delicious! I love fresh veggie wraps like that one!

  12. Katie August 17, 2010 at 12:23 pm #

I haven’t read any Sophie Kinsella – is she good? Light and fluffy reads like that are great for turning the brain off!

  13. Mo Diva August 17, 2010 at 12:48 pm #

I LIVE at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross and TJ Maxx is the BEST for bags!!! I HATE knock-offs….my TJ has some designer labels, it’s in The Main Line in Philly, so they get all the good stuff, Oscar de La Renta, Coach, Seven Jeans, and some crazy Italian labels thwat still cost lik 3k in TJ Maxx…haha, i can’t afford it, but it’s funny how they carry that stuff. On the flip side, they have the stuff CAN afford, that is not really a “label” but super cute and have got bags for $14.99 that I get compliments on EVERYWHERE I go!!!!

    Oh, and

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:04 am #

OMG I need to go to Philly … now! That’s some serious shopping!!!

  15. August 17, 2010 at 1:28 pm #

that why i love thrift stores/ vintage shopping, so i can go crazy with retail therapy and not put a huge dent in my wallet like i used to lol

oh how i LOVE that little market of yours!! i really wish we had one here, it looks pretty big inside too actually!

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:03 am #

I know its just great but I’m happy that a lot of people don’t hit them up…..more for me 🙂

  16. SheFit August 17, 2010 at 2:36 pm #

Dang girl! You hit the jackpot at the salvation army. I’ve been dying to go to the one by my house by I keep forgetting. I think I will do that today since I was called off work 🙂

  17. Monique@She's Going The Distance August 17, 2010 at 8:07 pm #

DAAAANG GIRL!! You scored. That made me happy FOR YOU just thinking about any kind of experiment at the DMV. Ugh. I hate the DMV. But you sure know how to treat yourself 🙂

    • simplyshaka August 18, 2010 at 8:01 am #

Thanks, I figure I needed something to make me feel better 🙂
