Frugal Friday!

8 Apr

Can I get a T to the GIF? This has been one of the longest weeks I’ve had in awhile and so happy it’s over! Along with my normal work drama, I think another contributing factor to the long week has been the gorgeous weather we’ve had in Charlotte this week. It’s been sunny with temperatures ranging from the 60s -80s outside which it makes it almost unbearable to be stuck inside of a gray cube.

Random savings all throughout the week for me though, starting on Saturday.  I went to Cafe Carolina for lunch.  I joined their e-club for the coupons alone since I heard they send you coupons for free breakfast and lunch items. I’ve never been to Café Carolina before but I used to live near their location and planned on using their coupons but never got around to it.  Good thing this coupon was good until April because I was in the mood for a free lunch! Well, almost free, you had to buy a drink to get the free sandwich but $1.81 for lunch isn’t too bad of a deal.

I  got the Carolina Turkey Breast and it was meh. I would’ve enjoyed a sandwich made at home more but I had hopes for their cracked wheat sunflower bread. The bread light and airy but would have been better toasted and the turkey quality reminded me of slimy, deli meat.

Oh well, I had high hopes for this place since everything on their menu looked wonderful. It reminded me of Panera…. A cold, unwelcoming Panera. There was a lot of natural light coming in but no comfy chairs, no music and just a mean feeling to the place so I most likely won’t go back unless I have a great coupon and am in that part of town again.

Tip: Don’t want to sign up for businesses emails lists because of them flooding your inbox? Create a folder specific for email deals and check it a few times a week to see if there are any coupons you can use!

I went to Bi-Lo shortly after lunch and found  a few good deals:

BOGO Earnest Eats bars two for $1.49

Jelly Belly Green Apple Pudding for $.59. Ok, so it sounds nasty but look at that atomic green color! It was too green not to pass up at only  $.59. It will either be really good or really bad. Not gonna lie when I say I’m a bit skeptical about trying it.

Wai Lana Yogi Chips-$.99. I’ve heard of this chips before but never knew you could find it stores. When I looked online, you can get them for $1.59 plus shipping and handling so I saved some money by buying at the store.

I got a coupon for a free container of Yoplait yogurt in the mail this week. I love coming home from work to find mail waiting for me, especially when it’s not a bill!

Tip: Like your favorite brands on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. Sometimes they offer coupons just for being a fan!

Dinner Thursday night was courtesy of a Groupon deal for Sauceman’s, a restaurant that opened a few months ago in South End.

I called in my order, drove over and within the 10 minute time frame, the food was ready. Now, that, is what I like to see!

I got the white pizza and a side salad and only had to shell out $3 more.

Tip: Check your Groupon/Living Social/Half Off Depot deals to see if it includes both dine in and take out. If it’s take out, order a big dish or item and you can get two or three meals out of it!

What deals did you find this week?
Do you buy Groupon, Living Social, Half Off Depot or other deals on the daily?
I need to stop myself from buying so many!  I keep a folder with me at all times with my deals that I buy so if I’m out and about, I can use them instead of having to stop off at home to print them out.

Frugal Friday-Random savings!

18 Mar

Happy Friday all! This week has been a hectic one and am sure happy to sit back and relax. Oops, hold on, I won’t be relaxing….at all. I have an out-of-town baby shower to go to tomorrow, have to go into work on Sunday morning since I am off three days next week and then an eye appointment on Sunday afternoon. I am hoping I get a few hours to kick back on Sunday but that’s up in the air right now. Enough boring, busy talk–let’s talk savings!

*Ulta coupon–$3,50 off of a $10 purchase

I went to Ulta for eyeliner and mascara and saw that there was a sale on Loreal products–Buy One, Get One 50%. I’m not a huge fan of the BOGO 50% off because I feel like I see it more often now as opposed to the BOGO free that I love so much but I will take any kind of discount. I got an eyeliner and a mascara and when I went to check out, the lady told me I could get $4 off from my Ulta Rewards points.

I got the $3.50 off then another $4 which resulted in a total of $6.23 for two items–not too shabby!

*Mani and Pedi for $25

Thanks to Groupon of course!

This Groupon was set to expire soon and I had to use it up and Wednesday night was the only time they could fit me in. Fine with me but I was kinda freaking out since I called in sick on Wednesday. If I ran into someone from work, my excuse was going to be they give killer hand and foot massages at the salon.

I heard about OPI Shattered on A Girl & Her Mutt and have been intrigued ever since. I mentioned it to the nail tech and she said that one of the girls brought in a bottle and that she would put it over my color. I got red and you know what?

My nails matched my purse. Why try to find shoes that match when your nails match?

*Target coupon book

I love Target so much but the fact they send me coupon books in the mail makes me love them even more. The great thing is that these are store coupons so I can use manufacturer coupons as well for extra savings!

*Free Spicy Chicken Biscuit at Chick-Fil-A

I got this text from Chick Fil A on Wednesday and was stoked. I am festive and planned on wearing green anyways so be festive plus get a free breakfast? Sign me up!

*CVS Extra Bucks

I love CVS Extra Bucks. If you don’t know, it works like this: You buy your item at the normal price then if they are offering Extra Bucks for purchasing it, you get that amount back on your receipt for your next visit. The offer I saw was for CVS brand night-time cream so I paid $15.99 for it and got $5 to use during another visit to CVS.

*Food Network Magazine

I got the subscription for free  with my Coke Rewards I’ve been collected. Often I forget that I have magazine subscriptions so when I get it in the mail, it’s a nice little surprise!

*Muse CD

I love Muse but recently realized I have most of their cd’s except for The Resistance. Being the frugal girl I am, I went onto my library’s website to see if they had it, requested and two days later it was ready for me. Our library lets you check out the cd’s for four weeks so you get a good bit of time. It’s a great way to find new music and get music for free!

What savings have you come across this week?

Do you check out books, cd’s or movies at your library?

Happy savings!

Frugal Friday-Saving in South Carolina

18 Feb

On Saturday, I made the huge trek to South Carolina. That 12 mile drive completely did me in but there was a good reason I traveled so far-cheap gas and lower sales tax. South Carolina has a 6% sales tax (counties are allowed to add 1% to that though). Sales tax in North Carolina is 5.75% however there is also a 2% local sales tax rate and my county has a 1/2% transportation tax so add those together and things tend to get expensive at 8.25% in my county. On the weekends if I have time, I like to drive down to South Carolina and load up on groceries and gas, not only is the sales tax cheaper but the gas is  around $.20/gallon cheaper as well.

I had a Groupon for Groucho’s Deli in Rock Hill and invited one of my friends to meet me there for lunch.

I felt like I was back in college since it seemed to be all Wingate University  kids, except I had no rubber stamp on my hand from the night before and wasn’t hungover.  I thought the situation would be like a typical deli but turns out it’s a sit down kind of place.

And they carry  Dr. Brown’s soda, I love that stuff!

Service was super quick and friendly, we were greeted right when we sat and had our sandwiches about 5 minutes after we ordered. I got the Brown Moose which was fantastic and you must try the Formula 45 sauce if you go–a nice combo of 1000 Island and French dressing. Funky? Yes. Tasty? Hell yes.

I was reaching for my friends sanitizer after the meal and while doing so, knocked her water over…..all down my leg. I was there, I saw it happen, felt the cold water hit my leg and  drench my jeans but I was so in shock I couldn’t stop it—I hate when that happens! So we had to get towels, ask for a mop and I had to ring out my jeans. Thank god they didn’t get wet around my girly bits, that would’ve been a tad embarrassing.

But the main reason I was in SC was to go to Big Lots. I love Big Lots like I love thrift stores and discovering new Big Lots makes me warm on the inside.

I hit the mother load at this Big Lots!

Almond milk

Kashi products

Ketchup chips?

I love chips and I adore ketchup but the idea of the two together sounds absolutely disgusting to me. I respectively had to pass on these.

Satay sauce

Pretzel crisps

Cacao berry Tea

I told Amy from The Scene from Me about this tea since we have been tweeting about chocolate tea. Two days later, she tweeted a picture of the same exact tea found at Whole Foods…..

……for $6.99 more!!? WTF?? Thank God I found that tea at Big Lots

Men who ask you what bra size you wear. No picture, sorry. I wish I was making this up but this is my life. I was making my over to the cash register and passing by the Valentine’s Day lingerie section–who knew Big Lots even had this? It was very classy as I’m sure you can imagine–I think the bras were $5 and panties for $2. I don’t think I would like if my man got me lingerie from Big Lots–at least go to Target or Wal-Mart! Anyways, this redneck man asked me what size bra I wear since I look like his wife “up there” Not too many atime am I left speechless but my jaw dropped and I was at a loss for words. I think I muttered “Umm, I don’t feel comfortable telling you that” then made a beeline for the cashier. Who asks random girls what bra size they are? We probably wouldn’t have been the same size anyways since I wear Very Sexy by VS so they perk my girls up a bit while his wife is left wearing Big Lots lingerie. I don’t know why stuff like this always happens to me but this is the norm in my life sad as it is.  These creeper men are out of control!

I went to CVS afterwards and stumbled upon a 75% off basket filled with Burt’s Bee’s goodies!

I was going to stock up on these since they were only $2.50 a piece but ended up getting one of each. I have way too many lip balms at home and tend to have at least three in my purse at any given time. I never know who I’m gonna be smooching so I have to make sure my lips are soft and ready to go!

What’s the farthest you will travel for a deal?

Do you shop at Big Lots?

Happy savings!! Speaking of savings, stay tuned for a giveaway in the next few days!

Cursing the Swedes

6 Feb

Greetings from Panera!

I’ve currently loafing off their free Wi-Fi they offer here….one of the many reasons I love Panera so.

Blarg-why am I up so early??

I woke up at 5A this morning for no reason whatsoever. And when you live in Charlotte, that blows because nothing is open and seeing that it’s Sunday, a majority of businesses don’t open until after noon. Seeing that I am not a churchie, this doesn’t fare well for me but god bless Panera for opening at 7A! I got the Breakfast Power Sandwich to start off with. I’ve never had this before and was pleased with it for the most part. It seemed to be a little soggy on the bottom but it comes in at 330 calories so I can deal with that.

I also got a free coffee thanks to MyPanera rewards club. If you haven’t joined–what are you waiting for? Not only have I gotten free coffees, lattes and teas but I’ve always received free pastries and bagels. Sign up now!

Check out the swag I got! You can’t take me anywhere…..

I’m really stoked to try that mayo. I don’t ever buy mayo since I’m not addicted to it or anything but if I have to use it, I have tons of packets on hand.

Yesterday was interesting day so let’s just start with that. I woke up at 6A on a Saturday-completely meh worthy. I didn’t have any plans for the day and the Y doesn’t open until 7 or 8 so that wasn’t an option. And it was miserable outside. I don’t mind the rain that much but when you had a skiddish dog who dislikes the rain, it can be a bit difficult to deal with. Especially if it’s more than a steady drizzle out there because once we get back in, I have to towel dry him since he doesn’t reek of wet dog.

But he is pretty damn cute so I guess I can deal with it.

I remembered a Groupon for Luna’s Living Kitchen I bought a couple of weeks ago. Luna’s is not only a vegetarian/vegan restaurant, they also offer raw options as well. I’ve heard good things about this place and switching it up with something vegan or raw could be an interesting switch up from the normal eggs or oats I have for breakfast on the weekend. Plus cold, rainy, dreary weather is totally an ideal let’s-go-get- hot- breakfast setting.

I ordered the Bombin Buckwheat Blaster (with fresh kiwi, apple, banana, blueberry and raspberries) and a cup of coffee. About $11 for that…..breakfast for one person. But Groupon was paying $10 for that so only $1 and some change out-of-pocket. If I didn’t have a Groupon, I would definitely not pay that much for a bowl of buckwheat. Free refills on the coffee so at least I had that working to my advantage.

Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous?  There were so many bright, colors in front of me, I felt like I had to wear sunglasses. It was a big, hearty portion with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg and a  wonderful breakfast to start a cold, rainy morning off on. One of the employees dropped by, asked how everything was and if I’ve been before. They are so dang friendly….and dare I say natural….there, I love it and wish more places employed people like this. I really like how they have fresh fruit sitting out by the window in the front and the staff will walk back and forth from there and the kitchen picking what they are about to use in a dish, that’s just cool seeing what’s going into your food. All in all, a great experience however I will only be going back to Luna’s if I a have coupon (lucky for me, I bought two Groupons) or want to splurge. Their prices are just too high for my budget with eating out but I really love their concept.
I got back home and it was Bob Vila time

Which naturally, I sang to “It’s peanut butter jelly time”. Whatever happened to him by the way?

I wasn’t doing major home renovations or anything, just fixing my bed frame. Which that itself is a huge project since I am really not a home improvement kind of girl. It took me about 15 minutes just to find my hammer and screw drivers so yeah, this was going to be interesting.

Basically, what happened was Ikea sucks.

No, just kidding that’s not what happened but they do kinda suck.

My bed frame broke…..and not because of anything fun. It broke because it was $90 and I had to put it together at home instead of ahem, a professional bed frame put together-er doing it.

So I’ve been ghetto-fab taping it up with duct tape

Classy I know. So naturally, my thought is “Ok, the duct tape and rockiness are ok for me but what if I meet a gentleman caller soon?” Not like I will meet one soon because this is one of the slowest seasons I’ve had and haven’t even been on a date since August-meh! But still what we to happen, things get saucy, then hi-come to my broken Ikea bed because that doesn’t make me look like a whore or anything.

So I lifted up the mattress to see what exactly was going on with this stinky bed frame and found the root of the problem

Hmmmm…..pretty sure that it shouldn’t look like that. I removed the ladder thing from the bed and found that the actually frame was really shaky. So I grabbed my screwdriver to see if I could tighten things up a bit. Then I remembered that Ikea has their own little do-hickeys to use when putting together their furniture so a regular screw driver was going to be of no help to me.

So I started to curse everything Swedish….

Ikea

Meatballs

My ex boyfriend who was Swedish

I cursed everything Swedish….. except Abba of course

(source)

Dear ABBA: I love you and owe so many mornings to you since your Pandora station is always there to properly wake me up!

Soon enough, I got everything in check. Turns out the middle partician was wobbly so I taped that bad boy up and then taped up the corners as well.

I got the mattress on and it was Lincoln approved!

Afterwards, I made the mistake of turning on WE, then getting sucked into the Joan and Melissa Rivers reality show then Ghost Whisperer. I’ve never seen GH but I actually enjoyed it–besides the fact that I was crying every other minute. Hello emotions–it’s nice to see you come out and play while I try to kick back and watch tv! One of my friends texted me asking me if I wanted to meet her at the Y for a workout so I jumped at the chance since I needed to get away from the couch and crying.

I met up with her at the Y, I’m not used to working out with someone so I wasn’t sure what to expect. We got machines next to each other-she ran, I ellipticalled for 35 minutes (is that even a verb? If not, I’m making it one), then I rowed for 10 minutes. When we were both finished with cardio, we did some leg presses and leg extensions then I did some side bends with a 25 lb weight. And you know what? Had such a good time! Working out with someone made the time fly by and it was fun to catch up, gossip, talk about boys, etc. I can’t wait to meet up with her again for a buddy-workout!

I had plans to meet up with some friends at Big Daddy’s for dinner and was stoked to go. I am always down for a burger and fries and Big Daddy’s is one of the best in town. I walked over there because I figured the walking would cancel out maybe a slice of cheese I was going to devour on the burger and every little bit helps right? When I was about a block away, my friend told me they weren’t going to make it since they were fighting. Hooray for less awkwardness come dinner time but boo for cancellation at the last-minute. I wasn’t so gung-ho about it that I had to have a burger so I ended up turning around and going back home. I toyed for a few ideas of places I could carry out from but really didn’t want to spend the money. I would’ve made something  but was feeling too lazy.

Enter in the solution:

Times like these are why I buy frozen pizzas!

Holy cheesy yum! It was difficult to have only three slices and be satisfied, I could’ve downed the whole pizza. Instead while cutting up my slices for dinner, I sliced the rest of the pizza and put in the fridge asap so it wasn’t as accessible to be.

I had the last of my pumpkin ale.

LOVE THIS STUFF! I need to re-stock asap.

A good day all in all……I’m a little less hateful towards the Swedes than I was at the beginning of the day.

Ikea-Love it, hate it or *gasp* never been??

Is it so wrong?

To buy tempeh on sale for $2 yet have no idea what to do with it?

I made tempeh once and it was meh. I am willing to give it another shot sooooooo, if you have suggestions on how to cook up this bad boy–let me know!

To think that the idea of public restrooms are nasty? When you think about it, you’re within arms reach of another person doing one of three things (hopefully that’s all), it’s kinda nasty when I think about. Even with all the advances that modern-day bathrooms have made, it just doesn’t sit well with me knowing someone is right there and I can reach out to them if need me. And what’s up with people taking the stall right next to you when there are tons of other stalls open? Don’t worry, no pictures here.

To think that Chick-Fil-A’s new Spicy Chicken Biscuit isn’t even that spicy?

They really need to kick it up a notch since I threw buffalo sauce on there and was without a mouth on fire.

To have no plans for dinner? I whipped up a bowl of brown rice with a Laughing Cow wedge, bbq tofu and green onions and it was one of the most simple and fantastic things I’ve made yet.

To get sushi from Harris Teeter after seeing it made right in front of me even though I swore off their sushi after a bad experience?

Who cares if I’m not sticking to my guns–it was fantastic!

To like Jennifer Hudson chunkier? I think she looks so ordinary now and I don’t think I could spot her out of a crowd. Now that I think about it-add Drew Carey to the list.

To be proud of myself for not choosing fast food as drunk food? I went out for drinks with some of my old co-workers on Friday night after work to catch up on things. One of the guys bought me a Red Bull + vodka (which I haven’t had in ages) and enjoyed some $1 beers and it felt good to unwind since I never really do happy hour anymore. McDonald’s or Wendy’s would be my usual go to for drunk food but instead I went to Nothing But Noodles to use my last Groupon I had for it (they had an offer for $10 worth of food for $5 so I bought three last summer).

The noodles weren’t singing to me but I soon found out Nothing But Noodles is a bunch of liars because they did offer items other than noodles, who knew? Trying to be a healthy drunk, I ordered pot stickers and the Asian chopped salad and got a Diet Coke. I only had to pay $1.50 for all of that so I was a happy gal and was on my merry way to go scarf it down at home.

To still be unsure as to whether this was an orange or grapefruit?

It had qualities of both fruits and yes, while it was tasty, I don’t like how I couldn’t determine what it was.

To take a ridiculous amount of pictures of Lincoln just for shits and giggles?

That’s when he is looking at me that is. Most nights, this is my view of him

To dress like a homeless person all wrapped up at home so I don’t have to crank up the heat and drink wine straight out of the bottle?

Wait, don’t answer that one.

No bean left behind

2 Jan

I wanted to salvage my white beans I made the other day so I went with making enchiladas with white beans and black beans so they wouldn’t go to waste. I hate throwing food away especially when only a little portion of it was burnt, so why not try to use it? As God as my witness, no bean shall be left behind!  Nothing that a little cheese, veggies and spice can’t fix! I  added green onion, shredded cheese and red, yellow and orange pepper to the dry mix along with the beans

I let that sit, added some chile powder and garlic to the mix then took half a can of El Pato, green onions, 5 oz light cream cheese and mixed in my magic bullet until semi-smooth.

Added the wet mix to the dry mix

Then softened up the tortillas by dipping into water in a saucepan for five to ten seconds ( I usually use chicken broth but was lazy and didn’t feel like opening up a container to use such a little amount)

Spooned portions of the mix into the tortilla

Wrap that bad boy up and then fill the pan full of cheesy fiberlicious goodness, sprinkle with the rest of the El Pato and 1/3 cup shredded cheese

Cook for 13 minutes at 375 and done!

I would die in a world without cheese. These were fantastic, filling and I was stoked to make use of the beans that were almost thrown out this past week. Plus this made four meals for this upcoming week so I won’t have to worry about making something for work for a good part of the week.

After dinner, it was time to work out. I did a kettlebell/dumbbell session and it was a great session to start the new year off with!

Upright Deltoid Rows (13 reps, 3 sets)

Bentover Row (13 reps, 2 sets)

Dumbbell Raise (13 reps, 3 sets)

Around the worlds (35 reps, 2 sets)

Between the legs pass (35 reps, 2 sets)

Dumbbell-15 lbs

Tricep Extensions (13 reps, 3 sets)

Curls (13 reps, 2 sets)

Shoulder Press (13 reps, 2 sets)

Misc.

Push Ups (15 reps, 2 sets)

I brought back an oldie but goodie for breakfast this morning….oats! I can’t seem to eat oats in the summertime and it’s definitely a cold weather meal for me. I haven’t had them since September so thought it would be a good idea to bring them back for a guest appearance. I don’t have a standard mix in I add each time (except for flax seed, I always add that in) and this morning decided to switch it up even more by making it a sweet one with banana and white chocolate morsels (only so I could throw out the bag and say bye-bye to those little rascals)

I also added a drip or two of agave nectar and you know what I have to say about this bowl of oats?

Holy balls.

Yep, that’s all I can say since it was so fantastic.

I had a Groupon I’ve been wanting to use for awhile for Sunset Grille. Not only do I love Groupon b/c it’s cheap but it also gives me the chance to try establishments I would’ve had tried before. I’ve been using Groupon since early 2010 but it seems like the prices are going up on there-anyone else notice that? I remember when I first started using it, it seemed like you could get stuff for $5-$10 and now, more of them seem to be around $20 to $30. I don’t like. I was especially concerned since Groupon wasn’t even spelled right on the Groupon. What if Sunset Grille thought I was trying to scam??

Questionable stuff I tell you.

They brought us these little fried dough balls, sprinkled with powdered sugar.

I was on it like white on rice. They best way I could describe them was like a soft funnel cake ball. Unfortunately, that was the best part of my experience there. My friend and I decided to go for salads and the prices were absolutely insane. If you wanted salmon, chicken or beef on it, an additional $5! I could’ve been the frugal girl I am and just brought my own in because I refuse to pay that much for a measly portion of meat on my salad.

I ordered the large portion of the Sonoma County Salad. How they describe it:

Romaine, Laura Chenel Chevre Goat Cheese, Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Red Onion, Roasted Beets, Blood Orange Vinaigrette.

And there it was, a glorified greek salad. Maybe I was expecting more for a large salad or it to pop since the ingredients sang to me.  Don’t get me wrong, it was good but if I would have gotten meat on it and paid $13 for this salad, I would have been very disappointed. My friend got there asian chicken wonton salad and it looked like something you would get at Wendy’s. Hers was $13 and it she kept calling it a $5.99 salad. If I am going out to spend that much money on something like a salad, I want something substantial that will fill me, not a small plate of lettuce with a few add ins. Sorry, Sunset Grille, I won’t be back.

Hope everyone had a great and hopefully long weekend. This is going to be the first week I’ve had to work all five days in over a month and it’s going to be rough.

Baby I Got Your Money, Don’t You Worry

8 Nov

That’s what I wish my company was saying to me but it isn’t so. I woke up this morning to see if the remainder of my paycheck they owed me was in my account and negatron. Now I’m mad. So I have to contact my HR rep, who is in Washington state and see what’s going on with it or what account it will be going into since I have four different accounts that my direct deposit goes into. I’m trying not to freak out since there’s nothing I can really do about it but I just hate this feeling of not being able to do anything due to lack of funds.

So I sit here at Panera since I needed to clear my head and not have Linx right by my side being needy and wanting me to be needy. I love him to death but sometimes it’s all about him when everyone should know it’s all about me. I took today off since I had some extra days to burn through and needed a mental break from training. We are starting to get our own portfolios this week and I am not 100% confident that I know what I’m doing but I’ve talked with others on my team and neither are they so safety in numbers right?

When I got to Panera, I noticed a few interesting things

*I’m the only one without an SUV here. Seriously.

*I’m the only brunette

*I’m the only woman over 30 without a child (elderly women excluded)

*Panera is now posting the calorie contents on their menu for both drinks and food. But then, maybe they have been doing this for a while? I just think this is awesome and more places should do this. I am not a huge fan of Panera because I don’t think the food is really that unique but I love their free Wi Fi and coffee.

*I had a free espresso drink waiting for me on My Panera rewards card. I just signed up for the card last time, ordered a coffee then had this waiting for me so you should sign up for it if you’re looking for free goodies!

*The Pumpkin Spiced Latte I got is better than Starbucks. Very rarely do I say that anything is better than Starbucks

I went to Zada Jane’s yesterday for brunch with some friends. It felt so wonderful to sleep in yesterday and wake up to sunlight. I know this hour change is going to mess with me big time but light mornings are a good thing in my book. Zada Jane’s is a funky restaurant in Plaza Midwood section of town that is best known for their brunch. I’ve been wanting to check it out ever since I moved here so I was excited I was going to get to experience their brunch. They have a huge outdoor seating area along with corn hole boards that you can play while you wait. While waiting for everyone, we sat outside and the hostess told us we could sit out there which I didn’t mind because I love the cold weather but no one else was up for. They don’t take reservations so if you have a big party, it could be a little difficult to get a table in a timely manner. It’s an eclectic and colorful restaurant with knick knacks and art by local artists hanging on the yellow walls. I had the view of this piece of work and loved it. I couldn’t stop staring at all the funkadelic colors

When I go to brunch, I get flustered. Eggs Benedict is always my first choice and if they don’t have that, I look to pancakes and french toast. But sometimes an egg dish will catch my eye and this time it did, especially since the egg dish included sweet potato hash.

I got the Booker T’s East Side Hasher-a bed of sweet potato hash browns topped with two Happy Eggs, frittata style with your choice of local Grateful Growers pork sausage, turkey sausage, or soysage, then covered with melted cheddar cheese and green onions – choice of toast or TLC biscuit

Sounds amazing eh? Look at me being all Canadian!

Um, yeah. Amazing doesn’t even describe this heart attack on a plate. The bottom layer was the sweet potatoes which had a hint of cinnamon, then the sausage topped with eggs, cheese and green onions. I just stared at this when they brought it to me because I wasn’t sure on how to conquer this bad boy but I just started from the right and kept on going. The biscuit was fabu as well and they had a mixed berry jam and apple butter at the table in squirt bottles, which I found charming. I can’t wait to go back here again and try one of their savory/sweet dishes for breakfast. I also loved their coffee, strong and they don’t have matching coffee cups so you can get a funky cup from their collection or bring your own. I walked around for a little after brunch but sadly, none of the shops were open yet being Sunday in the South. I got home and Lincoln was shaking and freezing so it was time to put on his hoodie and get him warm. We went for a 30 minute walk so I could buckle my pants again and breathe. He was prancing around with his WVU hoodie and everyone who we passed said how adorable he was in his sweater. Big pimpin Lincoln!

Oh and that collage? Courtesy of Picasa, which I just learned about from this post on Hollaback Health. How did I not know about this program before?? You can make collages, retouch pictures, etc. I use IrfanView on the regular for all my pictures but am going to start using Picasa!

I snuck in a little strength training session afterwards

Kettlebell-20 lbs

Upright Deltoid Rows (13 reps, 2 sets)

Straight Leg Deadlifts (20 reps, 2 sets)

Side Bends (20 reps, 2 sets)

Halos (13 reps, 3 sets)

Shrugs (13 reps, 3 sets)

Lateral Bench Press (13 reps, 2 sets)

Dumbbell-15 lbs

Reverse Fly  (13 reps, 2 sets)

Front Lateral Raise (13 reps, 2 sets)

Shoulder press (13 reps, 3 sets)

Curls (13 reps, 3 sets)

Tricep Extensions (13 reps, 2 set)

And today, I hurt. I usually have no problem with the Deltoid Rows but for some reason, the were the most difficult. Afterwards, Lincoln and I went to Freedom Park and walked around for an hour. I took him on the some of the woody trails that I’ve never been on and it was absolutely gorgeous outside—50 and sunny. Some people who were passed had on gloves, hats and all bundled up which perplexed me a bit. It’s 50 degrees and you’re moving around?? Divas. Another thing that annoyed me is rude dog owners. It’s natural that dogs want to say hi to each other but when you’re pulling your dog away and acting snobby, that’s just wrong. There’s an unwritten code that if you have a dog, you have to be nice to other dog owners while the dogs sniff each others junk. Which leads me to another annoying item—Lincoln cockblocking me. I had a couple of guys stop to pet Lincoln (or try to) and he got all skiddish and wouldn’t let them pet him. Yet when a girl comes over, he just sits there and bats his eyes. Really Lincoln? Maybe he doesn’t want a daddy but this is not helping me game.

On my quest not to spend too much money, I had a ham and sliced chicken sandwich and tomato soup for lunch

What is about tomato soup that just hits the spot? If anyone has a good tomato soup recipe–hook me up!

I had a Groupon for Icehouse, which I visited for the first time this summer. Thank God for Groupon and allowing you to get multiples ones and spend on liquor along with food! I grabbed one of my girlfriends and we were on our way to have some drinks and chow down. I couldn’t decide on anything since it all looked good. I was going to go with a burger but didn’t want something that huge then thought about the Southwest BLT but I could make that at home and finally settle on the wings. I got a dozen—half hot chile garlic and half honey bbq with a side of fries. Oh, fries, I wish I could quit you but I never will. The wings were delish and after downing the plate of fries, I took quite a number home with me.

As for today, I think it will be spent relaxing, cleaning and running errands. Exciting right? At least I’m not at work. Perhaps I’ll get to curl up with this book? I heard about this book from Melissa Nibbles and was intrigued right after reading her post.

I am guilty of buying food and letting it go to waste, especially produce and meats. I am trying not to buy so much at one time anymore because then I feel pressured to use it all up in a set amount of time. I can’t wait to read what this guy has to say.

Well, aren’t I a chatty Kathy today? And who the hell thought of that? Why Kathy? So many questions…… The kids are still screaming at Panera which means it’s time for me to exit–happy Monday everyone!!
