Muffins In Your Bag

14 Jul

Happy Hump Day! I am in a great mood because it feels like a Monday for me so excuse me if I am so happy. I took a new bus line to work and I was a little nervous. 1) Because it’s the local line as opposed to the express line. On the express line, we had cushioned seats, A/C and heat and looked like a charter bus. The local line? Well, it isn’t a charter bus, I can tell you that! Plastic cold seats with some sketchy characters on it so it gets an A+ for people watching. And the driver looked like this guy!

I love celebrity lookalikes. I almost wanted to start singing to him”Where would I be without youuuuuuu?” Well, I know the answer—the bus stop! Hahahahahah!

When I got into work today our systems were down so that definitely was NOT the way to start the day for me. And I hate when people send out an email saying our systems aren’t working then when you walk in and haven’t even had a chance to set your stuff down, they come over to tell you it’s not working and they sent an email letting you and others know. WTF. Really? So you’re coming over to tell me what you emailed me about already? And after I am coming back to work after being off for four days so I probably have hundreds of emails to answer before looking at yours? Hello frustration, it’s nice to see you again.

At least I had Animal with me

Apparently, I had Animal sitting around in my old apartment and I threw him in my purse so that’s his new home. I think he is going to start going with me everywhere so look for him in pics. He may even become little a hidden Mickey and you will have to try to spot him in pics!

Lunch was leftover Pad Thai from the other night

One of my older co-workers came over to my desk and just said “I put some muffins in your bag” and I looked at her very perplexed as to what she was talking about it. I thought she was doing a little drug deal or something and got the wrong person and that was the code phrase. Little did I know she was talking about my lunch bag in the break room and muffins she made this wknd. She’s so sweet—she knows by the size of my butt I love the baked goods and made some lemon cream cheese muffins this wknd.

Inspired by Ja Rule earlier this morning, I got up and started breaking it down and rapping it “I put the muffins in your bag, put the the the the muffins in your bag” and even dropped it like its hot. She laughed at me and I love her for that b/c she is what I strive to be like when I am older. She’s in her mid fifties but has a garden, loves cold beer and wine, wears her funky jewelry and cusses. I always tell her I want to be like her when I am older and she almost smacks me each time I say that.

Oh yeah, guess I should show pics of the lovely muffins

Another celebrity lookalike on the way home! This chick looked like a younger Frances Conroy (the mom from Six Feet Under)

Dinner was Black Bean, Mushroom and Pork Tacos topped with Avocado and Tomato

I broke into my Goya Recaito Cilantro Sauce. I saw this on Bikini By 30 last month ago and was intrigued since I love the ethnic dishes and love sauces.

I cooked both the black beans and mushrooms in it along with some chili powder and garlic and cooked the pork in Recaito sauce alone

Topped with Trader Joe’s Salsa Authentica…..love this stuff! I prefer their pineapple or mango salsa but seeing that I can down a jar of it in one sitting, I try not to buy it too often.

Delicioso!

Before I end this, I forgot about a perturbing part of my day. I have really funky dreams sometimes which I am used to by now. But last night was a really weird one involving another blogger, Mari.

Looks sweet and wouldn’t hurt a fly right? In my dream—big WRONG! I dreamed she was a serial killer but it was more like a Dexter-esque situation where she was taking out the bad guys. I remember that and how I was talking with her in a parking garage (which I hate parking garages because they are creepy and someone always gets murdered in them in the movies) and she was telling me how she wanted to stop but couldn’t. So thanks for not killing me in my dream, Mari! When I told her this morning that she was a serial killer in my dream, she asked if she had a theme song! I was like “WTF?” when I read this but she said that if she were ever to be a serial killer (not that she would ever choose to be one nor do I believe it’s in her genes if that’s your school of thought) her theme song would be “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and that just made me laugh because I never really thought what  my serial killer theme song would be. And a question that I have never asked in my life—–What would your serial killer theme song be?

Tonight was pretty quiet. Lincoln and I headed out for a walk and I wasn’t expecting us to go too far but we ended up going on a two-mile walk and getting our cardio in. Poor little guy was lagging on the way back but he was a trooper and kept prancing. I just love my new neighborhood, they were so many people out running, walking their dogs, cycling, etc. We even got a few honks and I will be nice and say they were for Lincoln haha.

Refueled with some M&M’s, damn you Valentine’s Day clearance candy! I don’t know what’s up with M&M kick lately but it needs to stop. These are a comfort food for me and take me back to childhood and having BOGO coupons for them is not helping me….or my booty.

Sidenote-why does fake ex con Leonardo DiCaprio look so good but normal Leo doesn’t do anything for me?

Do you have weird dreams?

I used to have weird dreams alot but then I stopped drinking diet coke before bed and it stopped but still have some weird ones from time to time

Hello all—apparently alot of peeps didn’t know that Dove chocolate products you can buy online existed. Hakuna Matata–I didn’t know either but they have a Mary Kay kind of thing going on where you can be a sales consultant and host parties. Check out the site here.  I would love to host a chocolate party! I would poll my friends to see which ones were on the same cycle and plan a party a day before when hormones are raging!

I wonder if they make dresses like this?

Today is the last day of leisure before going back to work. I like this not working thing but could see how it could get boring (unless I have unlimited cash flow of course) and am kinda looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. Once I start complaining about work, please remind me I said that. I am taking a new route to work now and that means a completely new bus line. I have the option of three of them so I am going to try one tomorrow and then a different one each day. They aren’t express lines, which I am used to riding, and are the normal bus lines which means more opportunities for good people watching! I will keep on my sunglasses, listen to my ipod and not make eye contact in hopes that they won’t bother me and my commute will only be 15 minutes. Bring it.

For breakfast, I had an egg white sandwich with turkey and white american cheese folded in the egg topped with ketchup and tomato and a side of kiwi and banana

Peace yo!

I did some more cleaning at my old apartment this morning. Note to self–next time I move, be sure to vacuum and clean before you turn off the electric. Cleaning a shower in a window-less bathroom is not fun. I was a hot mess afterwards so fro-yo was an appropriate choice. When I get fro-yo I go for the fruity flavors but today I did a 180 and mixed it up—-alot.

If you read my blog often, you really won’t see nut butters . I’m just not a huge fan, it takes me over half a year to polish off one jar and I hate the way it sticks to your mouth. Alot of people go nuts (pun intended) for the stuff but I just can’t get into it. However if you add chocolate to the mix, I don’t mind it so much.

 So I present:

Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter Fro Yo topped with coconut shavings, crushed graham crackers and chocolate chips drizzled in caramel.

Lunch was a veggie hummus wrap with baby spinach, artichokes, mushrooms, tomatoes and Trader Joe’s Spicy Hummus

You can never get enough Lincoln love

I had a pretty sweet sweat session later. I was getting a bit annoyed though b/c I was doing a bunch of jumping around in between sets but my heart rate monitor was acting funky and not reflecting my correct heart rate (I can assure you, it’s not 89 when doing 40+ jumping jacks)

If yesterday was all about NJ, today was all about CA and catching up with my bff

Loves her.

I’ve been seeing a lot of previews for Charlie St. Cloud which Zac Efron. I think it looks stupid but I can finally appreciate why people think he is cute. He is too pretty for my taste but he looks like a young Rob Lowe, I can be down for that

One drawback of moving: Not knowing what my preparation time is anymore. At my old place, I knew how long I needed to get ready and drive to this area if I wanted to go out and I showered, deep conditioned my hair, got ready at a leisurely pace and was still 45 minutes ahead of time. I even tried on a few different outfits to make sure I was wearing something cute…..still ahead of time. What shall I do with this extra time? Clean? Take Lincoln out? Clean My Kitchen? Nope. I choose beer and snack foods

Beach Bum Blonde Ale by Michelob

Eagle Sweet Onion Potato Crisps

I met up with my womens networking group at Press Wine and Food, they have $5 glasses of wine on Tuesday nights and I’ve heard they have great food including sushi so  I was super excited!

Drink wise-I had a glass of the Bridlewood Chardonnay and two glasses of Santa Ema Barrel Select Carmenere. I am not a huge red fan but the Carmenere was amazing. I had the Trio of Wasabi Roll-”Crabmeat, shrimp, & cucumber rolled with wasabi peas & topped with wasabi roe & wasabi aioli” and Fuji Kabayaki Roll- “Crab, avocado, & Fuji apple topped with warm BBQ eel, tempura flakes, & a drizzle of eel sauce” Both of these were absolutely fabulous. The Wasabii Roll had true Wasabi flavor but it didn’t overpower the crab or shrimp and the Fuji Kabayaki Roll was great. I never would have thought pairing apple with crab or avocado but it was a smooth, rich combination.

Now, I’m watching Lincoln attacking his baby and getting ready for bed—hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday!

12 Jul

I would love to say that I was really productive today but then I would be lying. I’ve been sitting here watching Real Housewives of NJ for the past 5 hours-ugh. This right here is why I had basic cable, I get so sucked into these marathons and then *poof* there goes my day. I did fit in two 1-mile walk sessions with Lincoln so I did something and was a bit active but yeah, the afternoon was spent yelling at these ladies

Caroline just annoys the living hell out of me. All she talks about is respect, family and honor. Right on to all three however I don’t need to the tough talking Jersey act going on 24.7, act stupid like the other girls…..try it Caroline….it’s fun! And Danielle, well, we won’t even touch that one.

Then there was the childish drama with Danielle and Ashley via Facebook and such. It seems like every scene Ashley is wearing some kind of beret so I was happy I found a picture of her without one.

Teresa and Gia—-Just kidding! I love Teresa-I think she is hilarious and love all her things that are leopard print. Ok, homegirl slice has a bit of a temper but I still think she is great. I have no desire at all to be a mom but Gia makes me second guess that notion, she is just too adorable.

Some pictures of the new pad:

A midgie dishwasher!

Speaking of midgies-I am loving this commercial!! I get so happy when it comes on!

But back to my new home, I am totally loving it just wish I had more storage and counter space in the kitchen

But I am willing to deal with it for now due to the location and all that it offers.

I was feeling some pasta for dinner, I cooked mushrooms, spinach and artichoke hearts with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, oregano and red pepper flakes on the stovetop while the capellini was boiling

New product to try!! Sweet Basil Pesto Chicken +Turkey Sausage from Trader Joe’s

When I opened the package up, all I could smell was basil and it was fresh and fabulous!

You got that right, Lincoln. It was a fabulous meal, I didn’t use any sauce but just sprinkled extra virgin olive oil on the noodles and let sit while the sausage was finishing up cooking. I went for a mile walk afterwards so I didn’t feel disgusting from the pasta. I am not a huge pasta person but will get a craving every now and then  for it but feel gross afterwards since it’s so heavy. It was still humid as all hell outside so it was a short session but at least I moved a little. While walking, there was some construction going on and I saw the sign “Men Working”. When did this happen? Whatever happened to Men at Work? Each time I see one of those signs, I always got this song in my head and if those signs are no longer when will I ever sing Men At Works songs?

I popped open my bag of Pretzel M&M’s that have been sitting around for the past few wks

These were really good, I’ve heard mixed reviews so I wasn’t sure if I would like them or not but anything that is both sweet and salty I can be down with. I think I would buy yogurt covered pretzels next time around instead of these.

I’ve been wanting to try Chai Tea but don’t want to waste money on it at the Bucks if I don’t like it. One of my friends gave me a Dove Chocolate At Home Chocolate Chai Tea

Yummmmmy! I really liked this but don’t know if it’s really Chai flavor or not so I need to compare it to the real thing. Looks like I’m going to Starbucks tomorrow! Any pointers or recommendations for Chai other than Starbucks? Can I get it iced or hot? And most importantly, does it have caffeine?

One more episode and I am out like this boy

Love and light!

Movin’ On Up

12 Jul

So exhausted! Thanks all for your warm wishes on a good move. I am settled in but still moving some stuff around and figuring out where things are so I think by tomorrow I should be all set. I have today and Tuesday off as well so that will be some extra time for me to clean, unpack, go find a pool to play in and such :) On Saturday, I woke up at 630A to start moving stuff and really didn’t get a chance to sit down the whole day but I did fit in an hour nap in the late afternoon once my friends who helped me left and the Time Warner guy stopped by. Speaking of which, I’ve had basic cable for the past year but now I have TBS, Bravo, VH-1, Food Network, Comedy Central and many others. Thanks Time Warner dude? I didn’t look cute at all and was in a crabby mood but apparently that’s what the men like. I have so many shows to catch up on, it’s not even funny. I need to just sit down and enjoy it because I keep thinking one day they are going to discover this snafu and then it will go bye-bye.

I met up with some girlfriends at Nikko’s, an awesome sushi restaurant in South End area of Charlotte. I absolutely love this place—the atmosphere is more clubby than restaurant with modern decor, lighting and fist pumping music. I only frequent Nikko’s every now and then since it can be pricey (or suggest it when I have a date  and am confident the guy will be paying, I’m a brat I know :)) but when I do go, I enjoy it immensely.  I had the Tuna Crunchy Roll and Rainbow Roll along with a Sake Bomb and Sapporo Light

After that, we headed Uptown to go to the Dandelion Market but once we were a block away we heard it was dead so we ventured into The Attic. I pass by that bar every day since it’s right near work but never been there…..and now I know why. It was full of 23 and 24 yr olds who were just so happy to be out–which is cool, really it is. I was loving their enthusiasm mostly because I was like that—six or seven years ago. I have to be in a “Let’s go out and get wasted” kind of mood to enjoy scenes like that and truth be told, that’s just not me anymore. I would rather go out, be able to hear people I’m with, not have some youngin dry hump me multiple times (not making that up), have a few drinks and go home at a decent hour. Plus, with the fact I had been up so early doing manual labor and such, I was ready to go home.

Yesterday morning, I walked over to Dilworth Coffee and got a large cup and stopped at Harris Teeter for some random items

I feasted on a blueberry bagel with light cream cheese and sliced banana pieces

Let’s not even talk about the mess I had to conquer…..oi vey. I don’t have a lot of storage so that was the main issue. I did make a lot of it work though and only have a little bit to get to still but I ended up going through my stuff once again and putting some away to donate to the Salvation Army.

While I was getting through that monstrosity, Lincoln was pulling out his ninja moves and exploring his new pad

Lunch was a Mardi Gras Salad from Harris Teeter. The name intrigued me, I think it would be cute if they added beads for decoration but nothing nipple related please.

Oh, have I mentioned that I don’t have gas until Monday so I can’t make anything hot?

I went back to my old place in the afternoon and got the most of everything out of there but I keep forgetting about all of my cutting boards, pans and sheets under the oven so I need to make a mental note to pick those up next time. Besides that, I just need to clean the place out which I’m dreading.

I’ve been craving Thai and ordered takeout from Thai Thai because I’ve heard good things about it. One of these days I’m going to try someone other than Pad Thai but today was not that day. I got Chicken Pad Thai with a Medium Spicy sauce.

The portion size was ridiculous—I think it could be three servings which isn’t bad at all for $9 but I wasn’t too impressed. It had a hint of spice but the spice overtook the peanut flavor so it was good but not the taste I was expecting. Maybe that’s my sign to try something different next time?

Lincoln and I went for a walk last night and when we made it to Freedom Park (the halfway point), it started downpouring. 20 minutes later with littler coverage, we were still there but found a commercial building near and waited it out. It was still sprinkling by the time we started walking again and we were completely drenched. Poor Lincoln, he looked like a drowned rat :(

Sigh, my little homeless looking dog.

Today has been pretty boring—got some laundry done, unpacked some more, gas turned on so I can start cooking again and found the Trader Joe’s in my area. I was so out of sorts when I was there but the TJ’s employees were super nice….unlike the ones at the other location. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t rude but they would never chat me up when I checked out like they do with everyone else. Seeing that I think I’m pretty effin personable, it kinda annoyed me. I talked to some nice ones at my location and chatted with a cutie for a few minutes and he asked if I moved here from Caliornia…..maybe b/c I talk like a valley girl? Who knows. Anyways, I love my new one and got the lowdown on when their not so busy hours are. I stopped at Target and Harris Teeter afterwards and yet again, it started downpouring. I am really over this rain but it’s perfect whether to sit at home in and catch up with these ladies

I have so much to catch up on. I was never really a Real Housewives fan b/c the other cities have been pretty boring with no drama but NJ I totally love.

Lunch was a turkey, cheese, spinach and spicy hummus wrap with Grandma Gibble’s Popcorn

I feel like I should go do something or clean but screw it, I’m sitting here on my butt watching trash tv! Hope everyone is having a great start to the wk!

The Week That Was

9 Jul

Packing, moving, working, stressing, living-oi! It has been a pretty hectic week with all of that going on. Tomorrow is the big day for my move, I got my keys earlier this week but all the furniture and endless number of boxes are being hauled over there tomorrow. I feel like all I have been doing is packing, bubble wrapping, taping, cleaning, making sure I have everything and tossing stuff I don’t need.

The fridge is officially empty except for a cooler with essentials I refuse to throw away—-spray butter, sweet tea vodka, Wholly Guacamole, frozen pineapple and pizza dough. My power is being turned off tomorrow which is worrying me a bit–will it be turned off at midnight or just some random time tomorrow? My bed has been broken down so I am sleeping on the couch but little did I know that is where Lincoln runs off to in the middle of the night. Also, I did not know that an eight and a half pound dog could stretch to ridiculous lengths and crush me in the middle of the night. I woke up this morning smelling Frito’s but none were there, it was just his paw in my face. Anyone else notice their dogs paws smell like Frito’s? Seriously, smell them-they do. A dude mentioned that to me once and I thought he was nuts but he was right……and I hate admitting I am wrong about something.

So, tonight is the last night in my apartment. I’ve lived here three years, which is a record in my book. I haven’t lived anywhere this long except for the house I grew up in in Florida so this was major for me. I move around a lot whether it be to different apartments, cities, etc. so I guess I’m like a gypsy. This apartment holds a lot of memories for me—-rough times for me with personal and family issues, a few boys here and there…..from ex-convicts to ghanja toting boy with a normal one or two thrown in there, friends who are still in my life and some that are not and oh yeah, the whole being a dog momma thing.

I just can’t believe I stayed in one place this long–I love this apartment so much but the quality of people has just gone downhill. I heard that our complex isn’t even doing credit or background checks like they were doing when I moved in and it is more of a college, white trash and Russian mafia mix now which I am really not digging seeing that I am, sigh, 30 yrs old. I am so excited to move to my new neighborhood since it is closer to the city and within walking distance to bars, restaurants and eeeeeeek—four coffee places!

Wow, I guess I had a lot to get out—-if you’re still ready this, thanks for not clicking away :)

Let’s talk food! I’ve been eating out waaaaaaaay more than usual this week due to moving, not having food, throwing stuff out and such. My waistline and my wallet are not happy about this so I am excited to get into my new place and buy some groceries and get to cooking again! I now present the random goodness (and not so much) that I had this week.

Trader Joe’s Whole Wheat Pizza Dough topped with TJ’s Spinach and Artichoke Dip with sautéed spinach and roasted tomato

6 inch Chicken Tender Sub with White America, tomato, banana peppers and Chipotle Mayo from Harris Teeter

Cucumbers with Trader Joe’s Kalamata Olive Hummus

Sausage, egg and cheese wrap from Just Fresh

Baked chicken pieces with ranch and tabasco dipping sauce and an Arnold Whole Wheat Sandwich Thin topped with honey. This was the worst meal of the week, in my opinion, however Lincoln was on it like white on rice.

Amy’s Breakfast Burrito

Cookies N Cream and Plain Fro Yo topped with Fruity Pebbles, Strawberries, Mango and gummy bears. Random yet fabulous

Huevos Wrap from Just Fresh

Chicken Finger Salad from Chick-Fil-A with Fat Free Honey Mustard—-anyone dress up like a cow today for a free meal? I tried to sweet talk my way into a meal since I was wearing a black top with white polka dots but they weren’t having that.

It’s weird how so much has gone on in this apartment yet I remember the first meal I had—chicken pesto pizza from Fresh Market, the memory is a funny thing I tell you. I can’t remember where one of my six pairs of scissors is but I remember a meal three years ago.

Turtle Brownie Bar from Hearth Strings Foods. I emailed them last week to see if they have nutrional values for their bars and granola and sadly they don’t, boo.

So, that’s it. I won’t even begin to talk about what a hellacious week at work this has been but when I blog next (hopefully tomorrow if Time Warner is on time?) I will be in my new pad!

Stay cool everyone—it’s stifling out!

New York Part 3

7 Jul

Yes, I am still talking about NYC. After my day with Mari and Mo, we decided on going to Hell’s Kitchen. When my friends this, I was a little sketched out. I’ve seen Sleepers and all and that is a bit of a dark movie but supposedly it isn’t so dark anymore. My friends got a recommendation for the restaurant Hell’s Kitchen in Hell’s Kitchen (and nope, not anything related to the show)

On the way there

We had a bean dip of sorts and guacamole for appetizers (since I hadn’t eaten enough already that day)

I got the roasted pork shank with greens and rice over a blueberry mole sauce

It was only appropriate to have dessert since we were celebrating my friends 30th birthday

Holy goodness, this was one great meal. The pork shank was a bit too much and I tried to eat as much as I could without being overly full but barely finished half. I am a member of the clean plate club (or I doggy bag it) but didn’t feel it would be right toting around food with me if we went to a bar or club afterwards so away it went. The banana empanadas were to die for! I need to attempt to make them soon.

We really had no plans for the rest of the evening but we did pass a fire station and got our picture taken on the truck! One of my friends got a picture of us with a hottie of a fireman and I am waiting to see the pic!

We found a bar that was cajun themed and saw they had Abita Purple Haze on tap. I was in heaven! I love this beer but have only had it out of the bottle so it was a delight to try it fresh. Oh. I may have left out the park where we went into a porn store at 11P where some dude approached me, put his arm around me and told me I was gorgeous. I flinched when he touched me b/c cmon, I don’t know where his hands have been and then he was referring to me as “the girl with the big booty” as I was leaving and I believe he was sucking his teeth. Gross. I was just perusing the store minding my own business and he bothers me, leave me only brother!

The next morning we met up with one of my co-workers who I’ve never met at Le Pain Quotidien. I thought this place was totally cute and they had a great menu but we wound up with horrible service. I am talking almost 30 minutes to get our drinks and we were sitting outside with not a lot of coverage so we were roasting. I got the veggie quiche, which was good but it didn’t have a lot of flavor

One of the girls liked to play with her food, hehe

Afterwards some of the girls headed to see Chicago so it was just me and another girl. Celebrating July 4th in NYC, we decided to go to an Irish pub for a late lunch and feasted on british food such as Fish N Chips and Shepherd’s Pie

We went to Central Park afterwards to relax and get some people watching in. I people watched for about 10 minutes and fell asleep

And woke up happy and refreshed!

Undies off 5th Ave, Undies off 5th Ave—whacha gonna do with your undies off 5th Ave??

We met up with the other girls and hit up Mother Burger for dinner…..we wouldn’t have known about this place but we saw a sign for $3 margaritas that sucked us in.

Hello lova

I got the wing burger. We were watching Food Network Best of Burgers earlier in the day and was craving one the entire day after that. Someone mentioned a buffalo wing burger at Bobby Flay’s restaurant in Paramus, NJ and we were tempted to go there but stayed within our vicinity instead

Our fabulous waiter!

We were only a few blocks away from the Hudson but I was not in the mood to deal with crowds (six margaritas and some shots will do that to you) so we went back to the hotel to watch them from there since we had a view of the river

Damn building was in the way but we still got to see the amazing show they put on. I would love to say that we lived it up afterwards and partied but True Blood was on and they were repeating the last three episodes so yeaaaaaaaaaah, that was it. And I didn’t even make it past the second episode, I passed out (again, six margaritas and shots) but at least I got to see the fireworks!

The next morning it was time to leave. We all had different flight times but one of the girls and I were flying out around the same time and another girl drove so we waited around until check out time.

Fabulous Blueberry pomegranate smoothie at Cosi

We went to Penn Station to catch the train to JFK and it was hotter than hell down there. We were early and toting around our stuff  so we stayed on the tracks and I thought I was going to keel over.

We got to the port early and went to Deep Blue for some sushi

Who knew airport sushi could be so good? This was 10x better than Tao!

I feasted on my last cupcake from Crumbs that was protected in my new cupcake holder before take-off. I didn’t want it to end.

All in all, I had a fabulous time and loved NYC! I would love to live somewhere like NYC but am not that much of a city girl–I like my car, grass (the stuff on the ground not the ghanja) and fresh air. I had good eats for the most part but am happy to be back in Charlotte where lunch with a drink doesn’t cost me $25 and I can drive. I would love to live somewhere with better public transportation or more things accessible by walking and I love the variety in NYC of things to do, different neighborhoods and diversity of people. Here it’s mostly white people which is fine but I like some culture and ethnically diversity. Hope you all enjoyed NYC through my eyes :)

The Third Rodriguez…..or NY Part 2

6 Jul

Saturday was the most fun day of my entire trip. I got the pleasure of meeting Mari and Mo for a NYC Foodie Walking Tour! I’ve been reading their blogs for a while and love them. I felt like I already knew them with their writings of day-to-day life, workouts and of course, food but was pumped to meet them! They are both Rodriguez girls so I was an honarary Rodriguez for the day so I wouldn’t feel left out. They both came to Times Square to pick me up at the hotel (thank God b/c I would not be able to navigate the subway by myself!) and we were off and running! Mari even brought me a workout DVD, so sweet.

I don’t even need to say what the first stop would be—Starbucks!! We got our drinks and sat down in Times Square to figure out what our agenda for the day would be.

We found the nearest subway stop and started moving! I had so many questions—do they have A/C, how often does it stop, do I make eye contact with people. etc. but the two city girls assured me that everything would be ok.

My first subway experience-yay!

We rode down to Union Square where there was a bunch of vendors hawking their stuff and I loved the atmosphere, way more chill than Times Square. Chocolate is always nice in the morning so Max Brenner it was!

 Mari and I

Mari and Mo

A chocolate pizza? Thank you God, my wish has come true.

Mo flipping through their 40 page (I’m not lying) dessert menu.

We didn’t have anything from there but it was fun to see the place and smell the sweet smell of chocolate.

The first food stop was there—S’mac (Sarita’s Mac N Cheese)…. a restaurant of mac n cheese dishes only. OMG.

Mo and I split the Sampler Platter and Mari got the Napoletene since she is a vegetarian and some of our options had meat. I love any food that gives me a map of what I am going to be eating

Mo and I waiting to chow down

And it’s served!

And scene. It was absolutely fantastic. I kept trying a bite of each one and was like “This is my favorite” then would try another and say “Screw that, this is my new favorite”. I cannot recommend this place enough and it’s reasonably priced plus it has vegan and gluten-free options.

We needed to get more carbs in our system so we hit up Pomme Frites next. This is a Belgian Waffle fry place with tons of dipping options. I was in condiment heaven! One of my co-workers told me about it a couple of years ago and have been wanting to go ever since. Mo mentioned it before hand in an exchange of emails between the three of us so I was excited she mentioned it!

We split a small order, I got the Smoked Eggplant Mayo and Mo got the Dijon Mustard

We maybe finished a third of the order since we were full from the mac. The smoked eggplant mayo was out of this world (I kinda wanted to take the remainder of it with me) but the dijon mustard was too spicy and I like the spice!

Crumbs was the next stop. I love me some cupcakes and wasn’t hungry but had to get some for the road.

Cupcakes as far as the eye could see!

I do like how they post calories (except for places like this) and would love if all cities did this.

It melted just a little with all the walking outside we did

But still edible—and amazing. Previously, I mentioned how Georgetown Cupcake was my favorite place and they can suck it. Crumbs has cupcakes on steroids and I love that!

Gray’s Papaya was the next stop. I heard of the name before but had no clue what it was until Mari mentioned to me that Carrie stopped there on SATC after her book launch party for a hot dog and then knew exactly what she was talking about!

Mo and I split a dog since we were so full from the other goodies. Thank God I wore a flowy shirt that hid my belly because it grew a size from all the food.

Washington Park was the next stop—no food–yay! I needed a break :(

Mo cooling off

After that, we headed back towards Times Square and once again were at Union Square. Then we saw something interesting

I’m all about the love but wasn’t up for hugs on a hot NYC day with complete strangers. However Mo was feeling the love and it didn’t stop with one person! Soon she was embracing in a group hug and even got to hold their sign (while I started chanting free hugs). Yay for hippies!

We walked past a cart where I saw a picture of an item I never heard of and asked the girls “What’s a knish?” They stopped dead in their tracks and looked at each other like I spouted out something in Japanese and Mari whipped out her wallet and bought me one

The verdict? Delicious!!

Soon, we were back at my hotel and it was time to say goodbye. I have sooooooo much fun with these ladies and am so happy I got to meet them in NYC. I felt like I already knew them and they were exactly like how they portray themselves on their blogs—-fun and fabulous! I can’t wait to see them again! Thank you ladies for taking me around and showing me the good stuff (including the porn store :) )

Dear NYC streets—I have some of you on my feet if you’re looking for it

New York Part 1

6 Jul

Hi all! What a whirlwind weekend this has been! I got back home from NYC last night and am still exhausted. Let’s get to the good stuff shall we?

I woke up at 3A on Friday morning to catch my plane which was just insane. I was at the airport at 5A for my flight and was ready to get on and pass out. I was flying on Jet Blue for the first time which was super exciting because they have tv and as I am a girl who only has basic cable, was very psyched for this. They had free snacks as well…..and good ones!

I was the first to arrive at JFK so I sat around for a while and freshened up. Once I found my friends we were on our way to the city! Since it was 9A, we couldn’t check in but we checked our bags and we soon off for some grub. We went to Pigalle, a SW French influenced restaurant and I got coffee…..lots of it! And Eggs Benedict. I think this was the best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had, the hollandaise sauce was out of this world!

We walked around after that and still a no go on check in. Our entire group of six wasn’t completely there but the four of us were exhausted from lack of sleep so we just kept walking around to occupy ourselves.

I haven’t been to NYC since I was a teen and didn’t know they had mad tour guides everywhere. Edit—-mad tour guides everywhere who harassed you about going on tours. If I am not approaching you, please don’t approach me. I am not interested (you will see this school of thought again in a later post)

H&M yes!!! Sadly, I only found a ring—boo! However it was $3 so maybe not a complete boo.

Oi. A naked cowboy is enough but at least he is young. We do NOT need a naked, old cowgirl.

It was nearing 3P and our room was still not ready (grrrr) so we met up with one of my co-workers in NYC for drinks at Tony DiNapoli. Hello white wine sangria!

We walked over to the hotel since it was past check in time and our rooms had to be ready at this point. I got a hotdog on the way home where yet again—another tour guide approached us. Hello sir, I’m a little buzzed from the sangria, trying to walk and scarf down my hot dog. When it comes to work, I can multi-task but this is a little too much. Please don’t tell me I look sexy eating a hot dog while trying to get me to go to a Comedy Central Show (which I would’ve been all over like white on rice if time and lack of sleep weren’t an issue)

Let Happy Hour Part Deux begin!

It was too much for Kermie.

Yes I did.

Ready to go out and take the town by storm!

Somehow we found a limo for only $40—total— to take to Tao for dinner–holla!

I had the Ruby Red Dragon Fly Martini (I think this was the name?) and it was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. And I’m a girl who has put down a lot of drinks in my life, so yeah. The fact that the bartender who made it was absolutely gorgeous.didn’t hurt either

I had the Chef’s Roll and Salmon Sashimi

It was decent— I wasn’t overly impressed with all the hype I’ve heard about this place. The service was absolutely horrible and the food, mediocre. I would suggest this place for drinks but the sushi was quality of something I could get here in Charlotte.

After that, we went to the Empire Lounge since one of the girls had some boy friends who were going there. It was a rooftop bar and very clubby, which isn’t my style at all. By that point it was midnight and absolutely exhausted since I’d been up since 3A and constantly on the go. There was a huge line outside but somehow we got passed everyone and went right up. I could totally get used to this kind of treatment. And it had a nice view:

“I am the best goddamn dance at the American Ballet Academy. Who the hell are you?? NOBODY!!!”

Hope everyone had a nice and safe July 4th— I have so much catching up, sleeping, packing to do it’s not even funny.

Stay tuned for Part 2 (it’s my favorite part)

1 Jul

I’m leaving super early tomorrow! My flight is at 6A so I will have to be up at 3A since I am checking a bag. But I am flying on Jet Blue so there is no fee and I’ve heard great things about them so I am anxious to see what makes them supposedly stand out.

Thank you sleep gods, I got 8.5 hours of sleep last night and felt fabulous rolling out of bed. If I didn’t drink so much water at night, I could have slept longer but my rule is if it’s a reasonable hour and I get out of bed, there is no reason for me to go back. That being said since I was lounging in bed, Lincoln got extended cuddle time since he was being boarded today.

It seems like some of you don’t know of other bloggers in your area—you should throw it out sometime on your blog. I had absolutely no clue there were others in Charlotte til I saw Lauren post something about having an area meet up—-you never know who is reading and could be interested!

I ran a bunch of errands this morning and got fueled at Starbucks: Grande Iced Coffee with Skim Milk and one pump Raspberry Syrup and a spinach/feta/eggwhite wrap

This was my first time trying the wrap and it was great! Rarely do I get food at Starbucks but I will be trying this again if I am in need of breakfast. I went to Ross, Kohls and Target and then got back to hang with Lincoln and get some packing in

Look at this cute oils and vinegar variety pack I picked up at Ross courtesy of the clearance aisle–$3.49

For lunch, it was breakfast time again. I made an egg white omelet topped with Trader Joe’s Cuban Style Black Beans, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes with a whole wheat sandwich thin with spray butter and cinnamon sprinkled atop

A green purple monster with Almond Milk, Baby Spinach, McDonalds Parfait and blueberries topped with granola

This was a super meal! I loved the combination of the black beans, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes as random as it was. The purple monster was fabulous as well, I think mostly because of the McDonalds Parfait. Meals like this make me happy I am cleaning out my cabinets and making random concoctions :)

I took Lincoln to the boarding place and I didn’t cry or anything! That’s a complete lie. I was fine until she took me back there into where he would be staying and I was in sensory overload with all the puppies barking and licking me, Lincoln grasping onto me for dear life and the whole experience of him not staying with someone I know. I started bawling, kissed him goodbye and left. I get too emotional when it comes to that dog!

I went to the pool for a fews and got some reading in. I saw some people playing pool volleyball and they were short one person so I joined in for an hour. I miss playing volleyball so much! I used to play alot but pool volleyball is definitely my favorite since I am not a beach volleyball person (hate the sand)

Dinner was Ziti from the Olive Garden —I snagged some yesterday in a to go container before it was all gone so I would have something other than breakfast foods to eat today.

I took some Tylenol PM and waiting for it to kick in soon! I need to get as much sleep as possible now since I know I won’t be getting a lot this wknd. Will I be blogging? You’ll have to stop by and see! I’m really not trying to be a tease, I just really have no clue :) I will have gazillions of pictures when I get back though-that I know for sure!

Til the next time……
